does the NCU see itself in having a role to play in the Victoria issue?
The IACUS Conference is being hosted by NIACUS at Stormont on Saturday 18th February 2012. Anyone interested in attending should contact Jonathan Lyttle by Monday 13th February 2012. There is no fee and tea/coffee and lunch will be provided for all who attend. It promises to be an interesting day and we would encourage as many to attend as possible.
Victoria Cricket Club in the last 2 years have went from struggling to field a 1st and 2nd team on the same day to having a 3rd eleven and a Colts side. This has all been down to the hard work of Committee and an influx of players. We are not world beaters and we know it but what we do know is that we all love our cricket. If we arent playing we are watching but the council may well take this away from us with this price increase. Lurgan Park in the summer is a hell of a nice place to play cricket and numerous players and teams have told us as much and you do generally get a lot of people stopping to watch even if only for half an hour. Lurgan Park in the summer without cricket to put it simply is WRONG. Wake up council.
Will certainly followup on the petition. Perhaps some of the free-spending clubs would consider making a donation. In that event at least some of the money would be staying in Northern Ireland
As Greg has said, the Council have proposed changes to what Victoria CC will be charged in 2012, which if adopted will see a 675% increase on 2011.
There is an online petition opposed to these changes. We would appreciate it if users of the forum would have a look, and spread it amongst their team mates and friends.

Andy, if we are unable to change this increase in cost, a town that used to have three clubs will have one and a lot of people that love the game of cricket will turn their back on the game for ever.
I know that I love the game, but if VCC folds, then I will NEVER again watch a game as I will be that disillusioned, this is that serious for me, having played the game and loved the game from I was about 7 years of age, either watching my dad for Lambeg of joining my Grandfather watching Waringstown.
Andy, we have no choice, we cannot afford the increased costs
"If craigavon Council could justify the increased costs to playing cricket where we have been playing for about 20 years, or on other council pitches for our entire 58 year existance, or in a park that has had cricket played for 90+ years, then maybe I could understand, they have refused to explain or justify the price rise, so please support Vicoria Cricket Club as we fight to continue, especially as we are now in a stronger position both on and off the field as we have been for many years, and support the ratepayers that enjoy spending a while in the summer watching the game we love."
We have an online petition started to gain support for cricket to remain in Lurgan park, and a club with 58 years to continue, and a town that once had three clubs to retain at least two.
Other clubs may feel that if we fold they will benefit, but i will argue that if we fold then the game of cricket will suffer.
Greg - that's a bit of a slap alright. Are council's not supposed to be encouraging sport instead of discouraging. It would be interesting to hear how they can justify such a hike!
Victoria CC just had a meeting with Craigavon Council and were told that there Ground Rent was proposed to rise by over 650% to a staggering £2200.00 per year [Apr. to Sept] could other clubs who hire of Councils please let me know how much they pay ??
Mike McComish former Connacht player is going to play cricket for Lisburn this summer?
Hiler, not sure if he's been mentioned in any previous posts but my good friend & fellow Grasshopper Simon Thompson played out-half for Ballyclare, went on to play for the Ulster Junior team & still plays for Muckamore
Clarence
A few more from Dad
Dermott Monteith - platyed outhalf for CI 1sts
Stanley Hewitt - cricket for North & Ireland and centre for Inst and Ulster
Basil McNamee - Played at North and played wing forward for Ulster and CI
Charlie Corry - Played for Ireland and Cregagh and played full back for Malone
Agree completely with Michael it is a real shame Obus wont be in NI for 2012. Hopefully for him his back issues wont prevent an SA international career. It will however give youth an additional chance as will be the case hopefully in a number of sides!
