Good to see the forum completing "closure" on the subject of finances and priority spending by clubs. Hope all the money going into "hired guns" pockets breeds the next generation of irish players ! some chance.

want to add a bit of reality to the debate re "Come In Your Ma's Shoutin' - it seems a long time ago - but in reality only a couple of seasons - when the same vitriol was being aimed at "Derrifrica" and they didn't really set the world alight in Section 1. As for the earlier posting from "played for a few clubs and didn't have much loyality" - no wonder you prefer to remain anonymous!

The reason I played in the Colts Cup final was because CI didn't sufficient players in that age group to put a team out and I was invited to play for Downpatrick under thier excellent captain Micheal Carson. By the way I wasn't demolished that day as my 6 overs only whent for 14!

I think the people that have a gripe about ciyms would probably just prefer someone from CI coming out and telling the truth rather than hiding behind all these inuendo's such as we have so many young kids attending our kwick cricket bla bla bla!! We all KNOW that they are getting paid substantial amounts, not that i have anything against it im just telling the truth! If im correct in saying the so called CI youth development scheme managed to produce players for downpatrick?? One certain Ross Boultwood opened the bowling in the challenge cup semi-final against waringstown, a few weeks later he opened the bowling for downpatrick in the colts cup final against the same opposition or otherwise known as the Lee Nelson demolition match were he hit 190! as CIYMS didnt even have an u17 side!! So all this nonsense really doesnt wash with everybody, just tell the truth, your entitled to do whatever you like its your money??

It seems to me that CIYMS are getting a fair bit of air time. The way I see it is, that if they have worked hard for the money with events or if they have been lucky to have a good backer then thats their luck.
Question is whats right?
A club that works hard to produce young talent and bring them through from under age to senior level as a team will enjoy the success more than a club that pays players to play for them. The success is the same - but surely its enjoyed more at the club that produces a "Team" rather than that of 11 players who have just been together for a few seasons?
I remember playing for a club that paid a few players and we even had names such as "Alan Lamb" and "Derick Pringle" turn out - the club is now a shell of its former self as the money ran out.
However good luck to the 'money' clubs, best enjoy it now as it will take years to build a quality team from scratch.

Roger we urgently need a new bye law
That clubs must send audited accounts
with there registration forms for the new season.
hopefully that would put an end once and for all talk of buying the League

we need to be discussing much more important issues than money !

some have already touched on how we keep
adults playing, far to many are giving up the game, how do we stop this ?
stevo and recently retired will you be playing this season ?

how many clubs are sending players to umpire courses ? , last season was a poor responce

lets have people on with ideas and stop
all this negative talk

Some great postings in recent weeks so many thanks to all the correspondents. However, can I make one plea and that is for more people to identify themselves as it adds a lot more credibility to their comments. We understand the need for confidentiality in some instances, and we also censor some postings that are totally inappropriate, but there's a lot more interest in a posting that clearly identifies the sender rather than someone taking a cheap pot shot under the cloak of anonymity. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and that's the value of an open forum, but it is only a level playing field when you identify yourself.

Re: Artificial wickets

Just to clarify Robin's point, under the new bye-law no agreement is necessary for artificial pitches to be used in these circumstances, it will be up to the home club or umpires if appointed to decide. Players are therefore asked to have appropriate footwear for both artificial and grass, as a decision on where to play could be made at short notice, the 48 hours notice no longer applies.

Hey Vic - yes it was me, and I'm still using the coloured pens - I think it helps read the story of the game better as you can see which batsman cuffed which bowler, or which bowler the batsman couldn't get away. (I think I should buy shares in staedtler...!)

I've decided to get away from all this bitching, so I'm having a night out with the girls....

guys

does anyone know what the word "may" means in the new bye law on playing on artificial surfaces. does it mean that both sides have to agree to play on astro and if one side declines the offer then the game is not played?
