re earlier postings on the reserve date for the Cup Final - the actual reserve date turned out to be 31st July when everyone else was involved in matches. I anticipate the reasoning will be that both teams agreed as they had a free day anyway and "sure it gets it played". And we wonder why people don't turn up! Great marketing all right!
Well folks, I did try and warn of the forboding inclement weather forcast, as did others on here !
But this is were the groundsmen prove their worth and value, hopefully despite the possibility of a shower or two, there should be play tomorrow down at Comber, fingers crossed !
Andy,
Despite his huge capacity, even he can't absorb this amount.
don't worry Vic - I have had experience of Mr. Moreland sen. getting the place dried up quickly.
Not all doom and gloom, there may be play after lunch tomorrow.
Jeff,
As you say, there is indeed heavy rain heading our way very early Friday morning and indeed to continue, into the mid morning !
The tricky part is, it should ease off mid-day onwards and how soon could the Comber pitch recover ?
Although I'm told that 'the Green' is by nature one off, if not the dryest and most water absorbant pitches in the country !
So therefore could be a late start, with the possibility of a continuation into Saturday, although I conceed, it's a hard one for the organisers to call !
Jeff, are you serious? Call it off lol
Not sure about that although would help the annual leave balance at work!
Anyone think with every forecast giving a lot of rain that the game should be called off tonight ? Then most havent wasted a day and it might just possibly add too the crowd friday week.Only my opinion but be shocked if theirs any play before 4 or 5 pm
If the final starts tomorrow and is unable to be completed, then play may continue on Saturday
Senior Cup Final :
Can it not run over onto this Saturday, as I assume neither team have a game?
Reserve date for the Challenge Cup final if no play is possible tomorrow is next Friday, 6th August.
Let's hope the forecasters have got it wrong for Friday!
Forecast looks terrible for the cup final . Anyone interested the INDIAN Academy play at Donacloney tonight at 530 againest a PROFESSIONAL team including Irish under 19 star Jason van de merve an Neil GILL and a host of the top PROS . Having seen the Indian Academy team its definitly worth a visit as they have some very exciting batsmen and their should be lots of runs an a young 16 year old Mandar who could well be top class .
re Senior Cup final rearrangements.
Maybe they will toss a coin to get a winner, or is this fixture more important than other cup finals, whether they are junior teams or not!
Has a reserve date been set for the Senior Cup final if no play is possible this Friday?
During our annual titanic struggle last nite.. Victoria 2nds-v- Portadown 2nds down at Lurgan Park, which concludes this evening, I got chatting to some of our more senior players, past & present and I brought up the subject of Waringstown C.C. and their continued ongoing success at all levels of cricket !
Indeed putting aside their involvement in the Irish Senior Cup final, their ever high place positions at all levels in the N.C.U. leagues, Junior Cup final awaiting for the 2nds again !
It was unanimously agreed by all I chatted too, (some of our chaps live and indeed have played Waringstown C.C. at earlier stages of their careers), that despite all of this, they just don't pay any of their players any wage whatsoever, this was always the policy at the lawn and still is, ofcourse with the exception of 'the Professional', which all premier clubs now have in their ranks.
Further to this I was told that when the idea of hiring and paying professional cricketers first came into being, Waringstown C.C. were vehemently opposed to the idea and fought against it for long enough, but had to eventually conceed to the majority vote !
Anyway, says alot about the very high standard of cricket played at the lawn and for the quality players they keep 'turning out' year upon year at all levels.
I even noticed on the N.C.U. website, they had a team in the mid-week league T20 which included 5 ladies ! and they only narrowly lost out to Instonians !
W.C.C. what a cricket machine they are and good luck to them in the Bob Kerr I.S.C. final !
(just to add, my post yesterday mentioned a new signing for us,Tuda Murphy, which is indeed the case, but not Tudor, as I wrongly referred to him as.)
