re; neale matthews D/L comment
have been told time and overs were lost as umpires were waiting for print-out does that count?
Congratulations to Muckamore in winning the Ulster Shield today when they beat Bonds Glen. Muckamore scored 323 in their 40 overs - Bonds Glen managed only 117 in their reply. A great weekend for the club with two wins.
re; dundrum/laurelvale
heard today from the 'horses mouth' what actually happened at dundrum. sounds very much like umpires where right to award the game to laurelvale as per ncu's own rules. would love to be a fly on the wall when they decide on vale's appeal.rules are rules!!!!!!!
Watching todays game at The Lawn was astounded to see both sides victims of some awful umpiring, the reactions of experienced and respected players said it all really.
i think there are too many people with too much to say regarding the D/L situation regarding Laurelvale and Dundrum. How would it make the unpires look if the NCU over ruled their deccision??
well spotted Tom - I was waiting to see who would pick up on that! But then if that's the only mistake I make I'd be happy enough! Today's Woodvale result throws things into the mix alright
Neale Matthews.
That would tend to make it look like the umpires got it wrong and the NCU got it right in asking the game to be replayed or could it be interpreted that this was a match two situation and now becomes a NO RESULT ?
Vic - no thanks needed - it was a really a labour of love - an enjoyable evening - a lot of really nice guys doing their best and over 250 runs scored - and nobody "in my ear"!. A great deal of potential on both sides but each side had a bowler who stood out. I'm certainly not gonna name them on this site in case the guys from Pollock Park are reading this! And those wee lads might not be all that interested in playing in Section I anyway!! On a different issue entirely re Dundrumgate. The problems in the past were more related to the interpretation of NCU Rules in the past rather than the Rules themselves. I formed the opinion based on experience over a long time that in such controversies everyone was equal but some were more equal than others. In this particular IF one Rule was "stretched" then how can another be enforced? Will be interested to see the outcome.
What with Andy Kennedy and Vic Johns both mentioning the Red Arrows I got to thinking what they have in common and came to the conclusion that it is that the Red Arrows affect adversely the ability to count!
Andy - 5 ball overs at Carrick (no help from partner?) and Vic there were 9 not 8 Red Arrows!
RE: D/L Application.
There is a lot of discussion on the forum regarding the application of the playing regulations regarding the D/L. The appropriate regulation is set out at page 202/203 of the NCU Handbook - regulation (t). Regulation (t)(iv) sets out the only set of circumstances in which umpires may award a game against a team failing to provide the par score printouts i.e. where a game has actually been interrupted and the D/L scores are in fact required. Failure to provide the par score printouts does not of itself impose this penalty.

Spirit of Cricket
In general- my opinion is that the spirit of cricket applies to the actions of players, umpires, scorers etc and the respect they show each other on and off the field of play but not to the correct application of the NCU rule book.

Common sense is a great thing and unfortunatley not something that everyone has! Something that sounds reasonable and sensible to one person could sound ridiculous to another. That's why I made the point that the NCU has no choice but to apply the letter of the law. Some of the past Committee Room decisions and their subsequent challenges / threat of legal action will mean that common sense will not prevail.
