I recall reading somewhere that a learned writer suggested that the English had invented cricket to give people the vision of heaven. having watched Mr. Trott batting yesterday I have now had a vision of how long eternity is going to be! Really will bring the crowds thronging that sort of performance.
I've never known Jeff to be so silent on this forum. what odds the rearranged match actually taking place?
RE laurelvale v dundrum
the NCU have rejected the laurelvale appeal so match has to be replayed.
Re Interested,
Don't think anyones interested !
But I can tell ya this, alotta cringing on here and there about umpires, well we played down at Clogher Co. Tyrone last Saturday with none of the said ajudicaters present and of course there were the usual contentious decisions throughout the match, hard calls and big decisions to make there & then, but fair play to the 'valleymen' they were very sporting in defeat as it turned out.
The point being though.... much rather had two officials there and some decisions maybe go against us,even at the cost of the match,, rather than the responsibility fall on fellow team-mates to give each other OUT ! Not pleasent, not nice... even if it was 'a plummer' !
So whatever grudges etc. one may hold, if the digit is raised, out you go, move on & thats that, cause...........
That's cricket... and umpires are integral and vital for the game to run smoothly for everyones enjoyment.... ...Even if he gives You..... OUT !

Jeff
What about Scorers????
Ivan - I would make a point that if players knew the Laws then they would be better in a better position to use situations to their advantage - I didn't see it but I am led to understand that a player's better knowledge of the Laws might have meant a different result to the FP T/20 final
Im not apealing that you should gamble but might be worth win yankee 1 Waiters dream 215 Rewilding 250 Rip van winkle 325 Almiqdaad 440 . .few eways at big prices Cheveton 145 Right step 440 Dancing David 250 .PS lads remember without Umpires the game would be totally ruined as they and groundsmen are the unsung heroes off the cricket game we love

I don't think that it's that players don't know the laws of cricket it's getting caught out in the heat of the moment. The three behind leg rule is one everyone knows yet people still make mistakes with it.And by the way that 6 on the leg side rule was only adopted into Section 1 a few years back. For a long time it was a bye law that covered the Premier League only.Having sat in on quiz sessions with Paddy O'Hara on the laws of cricket it would surprise you how many laws we don't know despite playing for more years than we care to remember.
I think the simplest law on the field of play to remember is that the umpire's decision is final.
Philip, the way to win at York is to simply follow Johnny Murtagh. You are guaranteed a profit if you punt the same stake in each race on his mounts.
I find it hard to believe that players in Senior League Section one do not know the laws of cricket regarding how many fielders are allowed on the Leg Side, but there again it shouldnt suprise me, as I was called last season because my Mid Off started yabbering away when I was in my delivery stride.
Yes you have guessed it, a clean bowled was taken off me, said player has been a bit more subdued when a bowler is in his run up since then.
I would also say that it shouldnt be just up to the captain and bowler, but if a senior member of the side notices three behind leg, only three in the ring or any other infringement of the rules, or laws, they should be ble to make their point to both skipper and bowler (especially if the bowler is young and inexperienced)
I have been reading some comments in relation to umpiring and would like to ask if you are willing to forward any complaints/comments to the NIACUS. I would appreciate it if you would direct your opinions to our Association as we are willing to listen to views and comments on umpiring. The constant use of forums to criticise my colleagues is not good enough and unacceptable. They seek to do a good job however they require feedback that will allow them to address any shortcomings. So if you are willing please contact me and your comments will be treated with the respect if they seek to allow us to increase the standards that we aim for.
