I don't think that it's that players don't know the laws of cricket it's getting caught out in the heat of the moment. The three behind leg rule is one everyone knows yet people still make mistakes with it.And by the way that 6 on the leg side rule was only adopted into Section 1 a few years back. For a long time it was a bye law that covered the Premier League only.Having sat in on quiz sessions with Paddy O'Hara on the laws of cricket it would surprise you how many laws we don't know despite playing for more years than we care to remember.
I think the simplest law on the field of play to remember is that the umpire's decision is final.

I find it hard to believe that players in Senior League Section one do not know the laws of cricket regarding how many fielders are allowed on the Leg Side, but there again it shouldnt suprise me, as I was called last season because my Mid Off started yabbering away when I was in my delivery stride.
Yes you have guessed it, a clean bowled was taken off me, said player has been a bit more subdued when a bowler is in his run up since then.
I would also say that it shouldnt be just up to the captain and bowler, but if a senior member of the side notices three behind leg, only three in the ring or any other infringement of the rules, or laws, they should be ble to make their point to both skipper and bowler (especially if the bowler is young and inexperienced)

I have been reading some comments in relation to umpiring and would like to ask if you are willing to forward any complaints/comments to the NIACUS. I would appreciate it if you would direct your opinions to our Association as we are willing to listen to views and comments on umpiring. The constant use of forums to criticise my colleagues is not good enough and unacceptable. They seek to do a good job however they require feedback that will allow them to address any shortcomings. So if you are willing please contact me and your comments will be treated with the respect if they seek to allow us to increase the standards that we aim for.

George I have just found the offending article on www.mcltc.com match reports Muckamore v Cliftonville. The match reports are written for the local press to report to the wider cricketing public. No slight is meant or was anyone contesting the decision which you correctly called. The six men on the leg side rule could be called obscure but that doesn't undermine your decision. Occassionally bowlers are pulled up for not having enough fielders in the circle as well proving that captains and players make mistakes when placing fields in the heat of the moment.Apologies if you thought we were having a go at the umpire on our website because that wasn't the intention.

just a question reguarding the D/L rules. if there is a power cut at your ground, do you automatically lose the match?
with regard to the dundrum/laurelvale match, was the 30 day rule applied? was the start time rule applied?

Re - Davy & Awful umpiring

Its quite simple, when the umpire puts his finger up you get of the pitch. Standing there for 15 - 20 seconds will not change his decision.

I would put money on it that the same players who stood on yesterday wouldnt walk if they nicked one behind.

So the simple fact is, accept the decision and leave the pitch.

Imagine youngsters watching players standing on when given out, what an example to set them.

On the subject of umpire bashing contributors to sites should get their facts right or study the laws before making comments eg muckamore site stating a batsman when bowled being recalled because no ball had been called by myself for an obscure field placing technality. 6 fielders on leg side is definitely not obscure!

I have absolutely no knowledge of the precise circumstances of the Dundrum v Laurelvale game, and so do not want to speculate on what should or should not have been done. I previously pointed out what the regulation said. I would suggest that if you were to read regulation t(ii) in conjunction with t(iv) the answer to your question is contained there.

Congratulations on Victoria CC winning their match yesterday against Clougher. A good nights celebrations where had by all players. Especially our very own Mr Vic Johns who even managed to gain an attractive female admirer and got up close and personal, mums the word Vic, Mrs Johns won't hear it from me mate. A great night enjoyed by all.

Congratulations to Muckamore in winning the Ulster Shield today when they beat Bonds Glen. Muckamore scored 323 in their 40 overs - Bonds Glen managed only 117 in their reply. A great weekend for the club with two wins.

heard today from the 'horses mouth' what actually happened at dundrum. sounds very much like umpires where right to award the game to laurelvale as per ncu's own rules. would love to be a fly on the wall when they decide on vale's appeal.rules are rules!!!!!!!

Watching todays game at The Lawn was astounded to see both sides victims of some awful umpiring, the reactions of experienced and respected players said it all really.
