Too many opinions without the facts on this issue gentlemen? Why doesn't the NCU chairman come back on with the reasons why their decision was made before this gets out of control? At the end of the day clubs should want to play cricket but if the rules are broken then is there a compromise? Dangerous ground after what has happened in the last few years.

I understand the need for rules and I think this is a sound enough rule but surely using common sense and thinking of the bigger picture and the spirit of the game is even more important. I add that I haven't got all the facts to hand and my view is a general one that anything that attracts bad publicity for the game just can't be good. The game is suffering from a lack of sponsors at the moment and negative publicity doesn't help.
While I can I will advocate that my club play for the points on the pitch and not in committee rooms.

Unfortunate situation with the Dundrum game! I dont know the facts so cant comment with any real authority - however, if it is the case that something went wrong at Dundrum's end then the only outcome can be the game awarded to Laurelvale. Rules are there for a reason and must be followed. While the flexibility to the 30 day rule may be a sore point for Dundrum, I doubt it was down to them "allowing" the re-arrangement to go over the cut-off period. I'm pretty sure it would have been up to the NCU given the special circumstances! I dont think this should come into the equation as Laurelvale done nothing wrong but to ask for dispensation to support a worthy cause!

re: Dundrum v Laurelvale

I have a feeling there may be more to come on this issue. Is it not the case that Dundrum allowed the match to be played outside the 30 day cut off date to allow Laurelvale to play a fund raising match and also that the match started late, both reasons for Dundrum to have claimed the points!

I think Jeff may be on soon with more than just racing tips!!

RE Laurelvale-Dundrum

Understand Ivans comment, but have to agree with Bruce.

The rule was passed and clear interpretation of it was made known

Sorry Dundrum...but you shouldn't have a leg to stand on....schoolboy error i'm afraid

No doubt the NCU will leave themselves wide open again however...!

Dundrum v Laurelvale

If the rules regarding duckworth lewis printouts have been broken by the home club, then Laurevale are quite within their rights to appeal the NCU decision.

Bear in mind that it is a fair distance to travel to Dundrum for an early midweek start. The players would have had to have taken time off work. Is it fair to ask them to do this again?

Dundrum v Laurelvale
An update: The Union has this morning received a written appeal from Laurelvale CC against their decision to ask for the match to be replayed, and are asking for the umpires decision to award the match to them to stand.

Dundrum v Laurelvale.
Pleased to see the " common sense " law has been used. I just couldn't fathom how two fine clubs would have wanted it any other way.

Good win for Laurelvale away to Dundrum ?

I understand the game was awarded to Laurelvale due to a computer failure. Don't know the full details but just can't fathom how it can be classed as " a good win ". Surely the game of cricket is the loser in these situations.
Any more details available ?

Belfast and district clubs...

I am starting to organise a winter league at the newly refurbished Shankill Leisure Centre in Belfast. At present we are looking to ascertain:
a. Interest of clubs/ inter club teams etc
b. A potential sponsor for the league
The league is planned to commence in October / November, span the winter with a team playing fortnightly in 6 over matches indoor. Obviously adapted rules and regs will apply.
Please feel free to get in touch with queries / expressions of interest.

No sign of a 'duck-egg' just yet !

With the inclement weather now set to take up fair again by this Wednesday/Thurs.

I'm very pleased to announce that the pre-arranged friendly match between a Donacloney select-v-a 'Vic Johns'select eleven from Victoria C.C. will now go ahead as planned this Thursday evening 6pm start ! At 'the cloney'.

This game's been on the cards now for a good few weeks, as due to the high level of new players at both clubs it has been difficult to get everyone a match, players range from mostly younger fellas but I must include some maybe not 'that young', but still really keen to play cricket !

Still, great to be able to post an encouraging situ. report on the forum here on the level of interest for cricket all aroung Lurgan and the surrounding Borough/County and while I can't promise a Red Arrow display, there should be plenty of 'fire-works' on the field !

What's more, I'll be one of the umpire's officiating at the match, so was wondering if Andy Kennedy could stop by and make a 'celebrity' appearence ? Maybe give me a little help ? I don't want to be subject of any controversy... on my 'debut' !!!

and there was me thinking that Carrick had arranged for the said Red Arrows to fly past Middle Road for our game! while all these congratulations are going on I'd like to express my thanks to the Armagh boys for their spirit & humour yesterday at Mallusk. Despite the outcome they all played with a smile and a bit of witty banter. Also the bit of craic with Billy the groundsman made for an enjoyable afternoon.

I'd like to echo Mr Johns' comments. Not many nicer places to play cricket than Dundrum. Great ground, great setting, and a great cricket club to boot, with guys who play the game the right way. Thanks once again for the hospitality, and we look forward to seeing you again next year.
