RE: D/L Application.
There is a lot of discussion on the forum regarding the application of the playing regulations regarding the D/L. The appropriate regulation is set out at page 202/203 of the NCU Handbook - regulation (t). Regulation (t)(iv) sets out the only set of circumstances in which umpires may award a game against a team failing to provide the par score printouts i.e. where a game has actually been interrupted and the D/L scores are in fact required. Failure to provide the par score printouts does not of itself impose this penalty.

If you can give me any winners I will be more than willing to buy you a pint on the last day of the season when we play you in Dundrum!

Spirit of Cricket
In general- my opinion is that the spirit of cricket applies to the actions of players, umpires, scorers etc and the respect they show each other on and off the field of play but not to the correct application of the NCU rule book.
Ivan / Sam
Common sense is a great thing and unfortunatley not something that everyone has! Something that sounds reasonable and sensible to one person could sound ridiculous to another. That's why I made the point that the NCU has no choice but to apply the letter of the law. Some of the past Committee Room decisions and their subsequent challenges / threat of legal action will mean that common sense will not prevail.
Ivan, I agree with you 100% regarding applying common sense. However, in the past the NCU have tried to apply common sense, only to be threatened with legal action. Rules are needed, but surely the spirit of the game is more important, with clubs being mature enough to apply discretion when required.

Not long back home from the friendly T20 match I mentioned earlier in the week between ourselves (Victoria C.C.) and Donacloney C.C.
This was a match organised for mainly players from both clubs who so far this season have been new signings and who have not always been able to maintain a regular place every Saturday.
A great success it turned out to be, many good new young players on both sides and played in a very competitive manor with some great cricket for the home & travelling support to saviour.
And a big thank-you to N.C.U. umpire Andy Kennedy none-other !
Who indeed attended and officiated throughout the match, not just adding a little more kudas to the occasion, but was a big help to some of the new bowlers and wasn't slow at giving a little timely advice when required.
Thanks again Andy, much appreciated hope you got home safely and thanks as well for signing a few photo's for me & the team !
has anyone any idea of the criteria that apply in respect of grounds in the various Sections of the 1st Division such as who needs covers, sightscreens, etc.?
Too many opinions without the facts on this issue gentlemen? Why doesn't the NCU chairman come back on with the reasons why their decision was made before this gets out of control? At the end of the day clubs should want to play cricket but if the rules are broken then is there a compromise? Dangerous ground after what has happened in the last few years.
I understand the need for rules and I think this is a sound enough rule but surely using common sense and thinking of the bigger picture and the spirit of the game is even more important. I add that I haven't got all the facts to hand and my view is a general one that anything that attracts bad publicity for the game just can't be good. The game is suffering from a lack of sponsors at the moment and negative publicity doesn't help.
While I can I will advocate that my club play for the points on the pitch and not in committee rooms.
Unfortunate situation with the Dundrum game! I dont know the facts so cant comment with any real authority - however, if it is the case that something went wrong at Dundrum's end then the only outcome can be the game awarded to Laurelvale. Rules are there for a reason and must be followed. While the flexibility to the 30 day rule may be a sore point for Dundrum, I doubt it was down to them "allowing" the re-arrangement to go over the cut-off period. I'm pretty sure it would have been up to the NCU given the special circumstances! I dont think this should come into the equation as Laurelvale done nothing wrong but to ask for dispensation to support a worthy cause!
re: Dundrum v Laurelvale
I have a feeling there may be more to come on this issue. Is it not the case that Dundrum allowed the match to be played outside the 30 day cut off date to allow Laurelvale to play a fund raising match and also that the match started late, both reasons for Dundrum to have claimed the points!
I think Jeff may be on soon with more than just racing tips!!
RE Laurelvale-Dundrum
Understand Ivans comment, but have to agree with Bruce.
The rule was passed and clear interpretation of it was made known
Sorry Dundrum...but you shouldn't have a leg to stand on....schoolboy error i'm afraid
No doubt the NCU will leave themselves wide open again however...!
