so any predictions for section 2 this year? i am not going to shoot myself in the foot two years in a row.

In the premier league, i would think it will be the same three battling it out for the title, waringstown may miss their internationals though so might pay for that.

Dont rule out CI for a top four finish anyway, they have a strong looking lineup.

I cant see anyone else getting close

If we had an irish comparison , Cliftonville could be the Ards f.c.(homeless) but then we would have to put up with Billy McAvoy telling us about his goalscoring exploits

just as well it wasn't the Scottish premier league in the article , C.I. could have been Gretna, came from nowhere with an insurance mans money, lost a cup final, got promoted to the big time, spent heavily , lived the fairytale and where are they now?

Templepatrick Cricket Club will officially mark its 40th Anniversary with a dinner dance at the Dunadry Hotel on Friday 29th May 2009.

We hope that a large turnout of current and former players will help celebrate the milestone.

We want to get as many players as possible from past and present together on the night to mark the four decades of the club. We want to give people the opportunity to talk about the games they played in, share their memories, have a laugh about victories and defeats and renew old friendships. We also want people to see how the club has moved forward and grown over the years, and how we're planning for the years ahead.
If you are a past player out there or you would like to attend or support the event in any way - we would love to hear from you.

Tickets are on sale now and are available by contacting;
• Andy McCrea 07811737047 andrew0@btinternet.com
• Peter Shepherd 07762132191 petershepherd@btopenworld.com
• Duncan Elder 07759168203 duncan_elder@hotmail.com

As part of the event a raffle/auction will be held to raise funds for the Sparks NI children’s medical research charity.

Ryan, as a massive Man Utd fan, and only the other week I was belting out of the Stretford End "City's going down with a billion in the bank!" to the tune of The Beatles classic Yellow Submarine, I only hope CI doesn't follow the season City have been having! As for Kaka, we already have him, without the huge weekly salary!!

What a brilliant article on comparing local cricket to english football.
Does that mean if CIYMS are Man City, then Barry Cooper is Robinho?.....so who is Kaka then?

I was just reading your latest article and as a devoted Burnley supporter, was dismayed to see my beloved Carrick compared to of all teams, the Clarets' traditional "old enemy" Blackburn Rovers. Still I suppose it's better being compared to Rovers at the moment as they are in the Premiership, and come to think of it actually won it not that long ago!

Get your Premier Division preview done asap Ryan when you are on top form like that!

Seriously though, looking around the Premier League list it certainly looks to have all the ingredients for an absolutely mouth-watering season and a real prospect that everyone can beat everyone else. All we need now is for the sun to shine :)

Could the selectors on the forum do me a wee favour and just put sandwiches and buns beside the players names to let them know what to bring!

Interesting debate thrown up there by Vanburn & Staffy.
I dont think we can prevent North Down, CSN & Waringstown from being the "big 3", but on closer inspection, maybe the 2009 season will be as competitive as its been for a while.

Look at Lisburn, from what I hear they have signed a few decent players and if they have got Strydom back....
Bangor's young team have got another years experience and could be a surprise to the league like in 2004!
Instonians maybe had a disappointing season last year and must want to do better than 2008 with a talented team.
Carrick I hear have added a few new players including the ND pair Turk & Andrew Haire - both will bring something extra to the team and they must have ambition to do well in 2009.
With CIYMS, they have been talked about enough - so we know about their objectives.
Finally Woodvale and Ballymena - both having good seasons to get promoted, especially Ballymena with a strong batting and slow bowling unit.

I think cricket can sometimes depend on how your season starts - if you get winning early its possible to have a great season, if you lose then you can get sucked into the bottom.
It could be a really good season in the Premier League!

staffy,

You raise some interesting points there, with regards to costain i just forgot about him. its interesting that csni play waringstown at stormont first game of the season which has drew my attention to having a guess what the 2 sides will line up like on the day as ireland players are away,and the likes of heaney will be playing for methody just like last year at the start. they might look like this;

Waringstown
Lee Nelson
James Hall
Michael scott
Tharaka kottehewa
jonathan bushe
Andrew cousins
peter hanna
simon harrison
Gary kidd
stuart kidd
simon stokes

CSNI
Mckee
horwood
jones
professional
dyer
arthur
beverland
coulter
costain
andrews
godall

it could be a very important match for so early in the season and both sides understregthened, csni more so i feel, could be interesting.
