Re Michael McDowell
I am not affiliated to any particular NCU club, but I do have a keen interest in local cricket. I hope that is sufficient for me to be allowed to pass comment.
My point was Michael – why was it just the finals day that were rearranged due to bad weather? If the group stages had been completed by way of ‘proper’ matches then that would seem reasonable, but the fact is that bowl outs were used to determine the finalists so why not the winner?
I’m sure Bangor, North Down, Waringstown, Woodvale, CIYMS, Derriaghy, Carrick and Cliftonville (all the teams eliminated by virtue of bowl outs) may be asking the same questions as me…

If a 2008 competition is being played in 2009 does it go on 2008 registrations? Does that mean clubs with new pros cannot play their pros? We actually had a bowl out against C'ville and one of their 5 bowlers is now playing for us. Can he not play? If it is based on 2009 registrations then surely it is a 2009 comp? It certainly is a bit confusing. The only teams left got there by a bowl out and some big names are not there. With fixture backlogs already would that sunday be better for league and lets have a proper 09 competition??

If memory serves it was agreed with the sponsor's to hold back the finals to this year due to the weather.
Had not heard of any complaints about that which team would you be speaking for?

Did I read somewhere that the 2008 T20 finals day would be held this year? Surely that competition should be abandoned or replayed altogether...
The teams already eliminated will surely feel aggrieved that a bowl-out was good enough for them to be thrown out of the competition but not suitable to decide the winner...
Come on NCU - FARCE!!!

Paul - with so many games on a Friday this week, games having to start at 1230 and Irish players not being available for these games it means this round of fixtures could be a bit of a lottery. Goodness knows who will be in round 2. It is shame that this premier competition could not be played on a weekend when teams are at full strength.

Clarence - not 1981 - it was allegedly after the Civil Service 75th anniversary game - when Gerald Dros had "murdered" every bowler - and a "wee team" of Robin, Peter White and some nameless others were giving me dog's abuse despite that during my most erudite speech I had praised everyone - as you know with me the cup is always half full!

Sorry I haven't been on the site for a while but a few health problems that nobody wants to hear about. I did venture down to Rush on Saturday and watched a few hours of the game with North Down. Well done the Comber men and well behaved too. Poor showing from North West so far and looking at the draw their interest might be over quicker than expected.

Andy is that the infamous cup final 'bet' from 1981? You were also emotional then especially when Ballymena had us on the rack. What with 28 years interest that could buy a player these days!
I'm beginning to think you run with Taito!
Good luck for the season and it's always good to read your thought-provoking comments.

Good hot seat article about the work of the NCU PRO, generally good publicity is hard to come by and all local cricket clubs have to strive to get the best publicity they can through whatever media is available, be it newspapers or the internet. Hopefully when the NCU site gets up and going again it will be able to carry as much club news as possible.

Ken A and Mark - wasn't having a dig - was purely seeking clarification - thanks for putting me right!! Maybe you should re-read my feature on the use of the forum!! and don't raise the point about his "Da" and money - he still claims I owe him dough from a bet made when I was "tired & emotional" at Stormont anniverasry match!

Have to agree on that Andy K shouldn't take a cheap shot at Andrew Haire because he is a first rate bloke and highly rated everywhere. OK so he's a squad player but in the strongest squad in the NCU he's not an automatic choice and if he wants to play senior cricket every week he has to move. Very understandable.
Also I think he has a car and I'm sure the Da helps out with the costs!
