Why is William Porterfield so keen for Ireland to play in the PRO 40 competition next year when he and the other Irish county players will be in the county teams? Doesn't make much sense. What the Irish captain needs to understand is that county cricket and international cricket are two different things even if we need quality opposition. If we want to rise in the ICC stakes then we need to play test teams. Winning the odd match against a county means nothing these days.

I couldn't let the occasion pass without referring to the retirement of Peter White as reported in the local press. Peter umpired with a sense of humour (well it is neede for some of the things that we see & hear) and impartiality. And he never tired of hearing - and laughing at - the story about Kasprovich & himself. Cheers big man.

now the season is over i ws having a think about the team of the year in section 1. Not an easy task and i am sure i will forget a few who had good seasons, but here is my pick:

G Morrison (Lurgan)
M van Niekerk (Lurgan)
S Sharkey (Hollywood)
N Godpole (pro Lurgan)
P McCormick (Hollywood)
A Kenny (Derriaghy)
J Magowan (Downpatrick)
C Lewis (Derriaghy)

My congratulations also to Inst and Waringstown, although I'm sure they also spend money on certain players to supplement their excellent youth policies.
If the league was based on least money spent:
1= Woodvale
1= Ballymena
3 Bangor
4 Waringstown
5 North Down
6 Instonians
7 Lisburn
8 CSNI
9 Carrick
10 CIYMS (squad at start of season)

Your welcome skipper, was'nt sure you read the forum at all, so glad you noticed the posts from myself and the Park Ranger !

Between you & me,as this was your final season as 2nds captain. Any chance of 'old Vic' here, becoming a Captain!
I'll even take on the thirds if it kicks off.

It's just I'm not getting any younger as you know, Greg !!!!

Well done to Instonians and Waringstown on sharing the Premier League title against the odds and big spending opponents. Lurgan on lifting Section 1 and of course my own club Armagh who lifted their first senior trophy in 27 years in our special anniversary season.

Roll on 2010... gives a good summer!

Ref the Questionaire,
As a player in the NCU, I think the ideas in it are forward thinking. To be honest I don't see any other form of cricket here beyond the 20-20 format in the future. So why not start implementing the changes that will be needed to enhance the game and bring it to the youth of today in a more interesting light. Exciting times are ahead, and it's now time to make the changes otherwise we will be left behind.
