mid week or sunday games?

15th Sep 2009

Just one suggestion theirs 50% of so called derby games ( ie lurgan /waringstown , north down bangor etc ) why not put the 70% derby game as mid week fixtures as with that u release lots free dates & if both clubs want too bring them forward to a sunday let them some local derby games midweek does away with practice an would shorten the season and stop a lot off sat/sun double headers which 95% players hate because it disrupts the whole family sunday package. As imo if each club had 4 midweek games in the fixture book very few would complain & with the added bonus if both clubs want they can pull it forward too a sunday it covers both and surely the idea is too try play the games before sept . But ill forecast this if we dont stop forcing people too play sat/ sun their will be an awful lot players drift away as its just not acceptable for cricket too think that players can keep giving their all too the game most love as over a long career the days are finished that the loyal clubman can keep a happy home & do what they want do .

great idea to post names. This will show who has the cojones. Bruce falls into the media trap of describing match 2 as "20/20" or in some instances in the Newsletter "T/20". 20/20 has separate regulations (free hits, etc.) and is a discrete entity. Match 2 is a 20 overs-a-side game.
Rant over!!

20 overs or no points?

15th Sep 2009

Re Bruce , i dont agree as 98% of games are won by the best team even if is 20 over game & with the weather constantly bad over here every summer surely its better than no points . yes the weather last week & this is making it easy too judge these 20 over games but if was normal sept days (cold, blustery ,wet) most clubs be glad was only 20 overs . As a playing 38 year old stalwart of Dundrum i personally think all the rearrangements is putting everyone off , as gone are the days that wives & girlfriends just accepted that we went played every time their was a rearrangment ( stayed in every club drinking late i called it socialising) the modern relationship will not let the cricketer just keep giving up quality time too keep playing rearrangments and hard for me too admit but they might just be right as theirs more too life than tring get games played 3 times . As match secretary duckworth lewis & 20 over games is not the best way but cant see anything even close too beating it. ive seen five 20 overs games last 2 weekends and was privledged too see some superb cricket with great reverse sweeps/slogs great batting catching bowling & not 1 boring passage of play) with in every game the best side winning and at least teams at top & bottom are getting a chance too win or be relegated / survive on the field and in fairness very hard too get pitch/wicket in great shape but in 20 over game players get on with the job & talked too quite a few last 5 games very few were complaining , ps bruce if was cold wet normal sept not one would want 50 over rearrangment imo ?.

Folks if you want to make a point or have a go at a a club, at least have the decency of putting your name to your posting so that everyone knows who is saying what. There's nowt' wrong with having a different opinion, but slagging behind anonymity is cheap and cowardly. We are currently working on an IT system that will identify all email senders and that will give us the option of showing it. Backdating it will be a priority!

Sad to see that NCU premier "50 over league" is being decided by 20/20 "lottery matches".

Re Derek (sp)

The net run rate scenario may well have changed since that table was produced on the 25th August as Armagh have had a big win and a walkover, Saintfield have had a heavy defeat and a walkover and Larne have taken three big wins in that time so I would speculate that the three NRR's are actually very close.

Hopefully the issues are decided on the field rather than by mathematics.

TOO BET OR NOT TO BET?

14th Sep 2009

The weather held good & got to see 2 good games off 20 over cricket on sunday with the only dampner losing 10£ too Alistar Bushe who when challenged for bet he said North Down were certs well Alistar you were correct so i gave your 10£ too Kyle Mccallan who after initally shocked said that he will find a good charity for it , so Alistar i paid it but by the look on his face im not sure you will be getting it.
