SPORT FAVOURS THE BIG TEAMS

17th Sep 2009

Neil ill have that bet ( did go thru over 180 posts to find that u didnt take North Down , ps u would have ?) never mind Liverpool i turned Man utd of after first half too see cricket as champions league only worth watching when it gets too knockout home and away the foremat favours the big teams as its never been the same since was the EUROPEAN CUP as tv is ruining the game showing far too much poor games as in the same way madness having 7 match series Aus/Eng should be 3 match and tickets for last game half price if nothing at stake or 5000 free too schoolkids . Anyone know why Ireland didnt get game againest Aussies when Scotland did surely the planners could see that 7 games series would and has been far too many as no doubt Australia in Belfast / Dublin was a fixture MISSED? With the weather set fair for the weekend all teams i wish all teams good luck especially Saintfield & Instonians.

Gerry, would you still have any contacts from your time on tour with Lurgan, whoops sorry I meant to say the Mid-Ulster Select!!! when you went to Co.Galway.

The English Gentleman.
Yes sir there's no doubt about that, the late Dr Wesley Ferris, Ireland, Waringinstown and Victoria cricketer, would certainly have no time for all the 'shananigans' and assing about that seems to go on between some cricket clubs! And yes Jackie Denver, another great international (football),but also famed with starting up Victoria C.C.in 1956 and loved his cricket.
Yes unfortunatly he is now not able to get around much, but still keeps an active interest in his cricket club.

When Wesley was very ill and had'nt long left, he was still organising the Wesley Ferris Cup etc for the youth teams from his sick bed.

I think that sort of sums it up really, when you hear and read about things that go on in local cricket.
Yes Wesley Ferris, Jackie Denver, real cricketmen, real gentlemen and certainly the type off men I salute...

We at Victoria C.C. are already planning our pre-season tour for early next April and are thinking about heading down Co.Galway direction.

Its very heavy reading on that other channel at present,so to date I have not had a reply!

Maybe someone on this site could help me and let me know where is the nearest cricket clubs around the Galway area,or do they even play cricket down there !

Many thanks Vic Jons Victoria C.C.

Gerry/Vic,

Wesley was a gentleman. Didn't drink Gerry, so you probably had to buy your own! Wish he was still around to see the shennanigans going on in cricket now. Vic, is Jackie Denver still around? I heard he is disabled now. Another gentleman, how do you guys do it in Victoria?

Davy,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it was Glendermott who had most of their club working day and night to get the pitch ready for a game which, if they won, would mean they would stave off relegation? If so, I wonder how many clubs in NCU would have mamebers with so much commitment. Dundrum certainly wouldn't anyway..!

Our boys didn't even last twenty overs when they got the opportunity to bat fifty down your place.
I guess if people don't like 'the lottery' of a twenty over shootout, they might try that little bit harder to get games on the first time of asking!

This is just too guage what interest their would be as the NCU have said that we cant bring our Sri Lankan coach Manni Fernando over as he played first class cricket even though he is not too good for this section but our club is certainly interested in looking too hire a Professional even if it is NCU PREMIER player all replies will be in strictest confidence the job will consist off coaching kids on mondays night & 1 summer school week ( possibly at night) taking charge off senior practice tue & thurs and obviously playing for Dundrum . contact jeff www.dundrumcc.com or my numbers are in ncu book .

mid week or sunday games?

15th Sep 2009

Just one suggestion theirs 50% of so called derby games ( ie lurgan /waringstown , north down bangor etc ) why not put the 70% derby game as mid week fixtures as with that u release lots free dates & if both clubs want too bring them forward to a sunday let them some local derby games midweek does away with practice an would shorten the season and stop a lot off sat/sun double headers which 95% players hate because it disrupts the whole family sunday package. As imo if each club had 4 midweek games in the fixture book very few would complain & with the added bonus if both clubs want they can pull it forward too a sunday it covers both and surely the idea is too try play the games before sept . But ill forecast this if we dont stop forcing people too play sat/ sun their will be an awful lot players drift away as its just not acceptable for cricket too think that players can keep giving their all too the game most love as over a long career the days are finished that the loyal clubman can keep a happy home & do what they want do .

great idea to post names. This will show who has the cojones. Bruce falls into the media trap of describing match 2 as "20/20" or in some instances in the Newsletter "T/20". 20/20 has separate regulations (free hits, etc.) and is a discrete entity. Match 2 is a 20 overs-a-side game.
Rant over!!
