From News Letter on North Down pro
"Robertson, who is not expected to be offered a contract to return to Comber next season despite scoring more than 1,000 runs this summer"

Any ideas why, he looks like a class act, or maybe the journo has got confused and he is unavailable next year?

Response

Ryan
I can confirm that North Down haven't made any decision yet on an overseas player/coach for next year. Iain is indeed a class act and has had a great season but we, just the same as any club must assess our strengths and weaknesses, both on and off the field, before making any firm decision for 2010.

Thanks Gerry I'll make enquiries with the Munster Union.

It only gives lite rain if any this Sat morning and Sunday is to be fine again so clubs should get their matches played.

Jason Maxwell Millpark, only fair to warn you also, when batting; watch out for the Stevie Max 'quicker ball' pitched up full. Just as deadly as ur 'inswinging' full toss.

Have a good game and as they say,
"May the best team win"!

GROUNDSMEN WORTH MORE THAN ANY PROS

17th Sep 2009

lads the forecast is fine a very odd shower . Just spoke too the hardest working UNPAID groundsman Tommy Curlett who along with the retired Jack Curlett have been raking grass the last two days so that the outfield can be cut again ( more than Glenderrmott members work hard to get games played)so i hope everyone who gets to play in the meadow sat/sun appreciates what REAL CLUBMEN do for their love of cricket . PS i was a gambler(lol) id bet Dundrum lose both games .

c'mon Jeff - surely you read my earlier postings about the England/Ireland/Australia/Scotland games. And look at the reaction that it caused with me being accused of being anti-English, etc. etc. It has become very obvious over the past 5 ODIs that, for England, the game at Stormont was a step too far! It has meant that the English players are tired & jaded and really look like taking a 7-0 drubbing as I can't see from where they can conjure up a win. I am surprised that the English media hasn't picked up on the point that if they hadn't come to Belfast they would have had more time toi recharge the batteries. It is also clear that Australia didn't put as much effort into the Ashes series so they were able to play Scotland - for the 30th time - and so could hit the ground running for the ODIs.
But seriuosly tho' - the ECB seems to be getting themselves into a tangle over proposed 20/20 games, a 40 over competition that will involve Ireland on Sundays and Test matches all to sell out to the Sky money i.e. until Sky latches on to another sport. Does this not ring alarm bells anywhere.

SPORT FAVOURS THE BIG TEAMS

17th Sep 2009

Neil ill have that bet ( did go thru over 180 posts to find that u didnt take North Down , ps u would have ?) never mind Liverpool i turned Man utd of after first half too see cricket as champions league only worth watching when it gets too knockout home and away the foremat favours the big teams as its never been the same since was the EUROPEAN CUP as tv is ruining the game showing far too much poor games as in the same way madness having 7 match series Aus/Eng should be 3 match and tickets for last game half price if nothing at stake or 5000 free too schoolkids . Anyone know why Ireland didnt get game againest Aussies when Scotland did surely the planners could see that 7 games series would and has been far too many as no doubt Australia in Belfast / Dublin was a fixture MISSED? With the weather set fair for the weekend all teams i wish all teams good luck especially Saintfield & Instonians.

Gerry, would you still have any contacts from your time on tour with Lurgan, whoops sorry I meant to say the Mid-Ulster Select!!! when you went to Co.Galway.

The English Gentleman.
Yes sir there's no doubt about that, the late Dr Wesley Ferris, Ireland, Waringinstown and Victoria cricketer, would certainly have no time for all the 'shananigans' and assing about that seems to go on between some cricket clubs! And yes Jackie Denver, another great international (football),but also famed with starting up Victoria C.C.in 1956 and loved his cricket.
Yes unfortunatly he is now not able to get around much, but still keeps an active interest in his cricket club.

When Wesley was very ill and had'nt long left, he was still organising the Wesley Ferris Cup etc for the youth teams from his sick bed.

I think that sort of sums it up really, when you hear and read about things that go on in local cricket.
Yes Wesley Ferris, Jackie Denver, real cricketmen, real gentlemen and certainly the type off men I salute...

We at Victoria C.C. are already planning our pre-season tour for early next April and are thinking about heading down Co.Galway direction.

Its very heavy reading on that other channel at present,so to date I have not had a reply!

Maybe someone on this site could help me and let me know where is the nearest cricket clubs around the Galway area,or do they even play cricket down there !

Many thanks Vic Jons Victoria C.C.
