re Vic's posting - the situation shows the inbuilt discrimination that exists in the registration rules - can I assume from Roger's posting that NZ ex-test players are welcome in section 1 but not in Section 4? But seriously - the "other" forum is full of postings re the LCU registration situation where loads of overseas guys, whose granny was on a trip to Blarney Castle, qualify for an Irish passport and just happen to walk in the door at,say, Balrothery and, surprise, surprise, they find a cricket club. Did a game last season between Railway Union and Leinster where the number of "local" players could be counted on 2 hands with the thumbs and 6 fingers missing!
Vic: Don't know how your Indian friend could be excluded. Maybe Sachin Tendulkar would have a problem.
Are Sachin and Andt (he sounds Indian) good pals?
Andy
I had just assumed that Aaron was the new NCU Registration Secretary. Why else would he be interested in who we had or hadn't signed for the new season ?
It was good to see Wayne Horwwod, Brain Baguley and Ralph Coetsee at nets last night working with the other players and passing on their experience and knowledge.
Thanks Roger for clearing that up, but talking hypothetically of course; suppose my 'good friend' Sachin Tanduklar from India decides to suddenly retire from International cricket with India and set up an Indian restaurent in Moira Co.Down N.Ireland.
He then decides on his day off (Saturday) that he wants to enjoy a bit off cricket and signs for Victoria C.C. N.C.U. division 3 (near the bottom), would he be eligible and could he play at this level ?
No
Re: Vic
I think that the restriction you refer to is something the LCU has brought for Senior cricket in because they have had such an influx of overseas visitors in the Republic in recent years and some of their senior teams are now full of overseas players.
There is no such restriction in the NCU and anybody who can demonstrate to the Registrations Committee that they are here for purposes other than cricket as described in our Registrsation Guidelines is very welcome to play NCU cricket no matter where they come from.
Its a poor look-out for club cricket, if what I've been reading is true and that new faces can't 'cold call' as it were at a cricket club and look to join.
It appears there's some kind of restriction on certain new players and the level at which they can play at!
I don't know what the world's coming too anymore!! All I will say is; at Victoria C.C. we don't care how good you are, your very welcome at Lurgan Park to join in with the rest of us, on a Monday nite 6.30pm. Sharp!!
why do you need to know this Aaron?
i see muckamore have a few more players at their training ones that havent signed perhaps andrew magennis will leave laurelvale??? can any1 shed any light on this
re record schools cup winner -you must be the oldest schoolboy in the world! But hey c'mon, sure it'll be a big day for us country folk to get a big day in the city - I've arranged a lift in the milk lorry already! and well spotted about the slip in my name - I sustained a finger strain whilst getting the trigger finger into shape for the incoming season - but well recovered now!
as secretary of dundrum 2nds we are currently looking to arrange a couple of pre season friendlies we might be able to use a local ground with an artifical wicket for mid april we would also be prepared to travel if interested my contact details are in the fixture book or leave a messsage on our website.thanks p.s saturday or sunday.
A bit of news from Waringstown.
Kosala Kulasekara is not coming to the lawn and we have signed a new New Zealander as a professional. Also we have got a slow bowler who has played in the Lancashire Cricket league. He has got a job over here and has been practising with us.
I will try and get the names as soon as possible!
You are right Andy, there is no Collegians, but then again there is no Andt Kennedy either! Enjoy St Patrick's Day, I am off to Down Royal!
don't fret James - there are enough guys around Moylena who know each other! The major problem that we had in the North-West last season was at the end of the game, etc., we hardly knew who We were! Mr. Brolly and Co. saw to that!!
P.S. Big win yesterday for Ballymena Academy in Schools Cup semi. Left it a bit late but its never over 'til its over. Bit of a slap for Collegians - oops, sorry, forgot - there is no Collegians now!
I see CSNI pro Kieran Noema-Barnett is in the Kiwi 30 for the T20 World Cup...
Also, when Brigade play Muckamore pre-season can someone go along and introduce everyone to each other!!!
i hear by all accounts that andrew magennis is training for muckamore possibly another signing for muckamore to their campaign
