it would be awesome to see hamish marshall play for ireland. Great player to watch. Was in bristol to see marshall and fleming destroy england a few years ago and it was great to watch.
At 31 he has a few good years in him yet and can only be constructive for the progress of ireland on the world stage.
Was reading an interesting article regarding an interview with a former Irish professional club player called Hendy Wallace, from the West-Indies.
He thoroughly enjoyed his time playing here for N/West & Leinster clubs in the 80's and he must have been a big hitter himself of a cricket ball,as he states he holds an as yet unbroken record of hitting seven sixes in an over!
He also commends the great improvement of Irelands fortunes these recent years, although he is not surprised as the talent was always there.
Favorite Irish player was Decker Currey, who as a 17yr.old was adjudged by 'SOME',to be a non-runner back then,as he played across the line too much! a bit like Viv Richards!!
And me too!
James move with the times...
This can only serve to help the cause especially if Hamish is paid to assist / lead with under-age development work.
Hamish Marshall to play for Ireland - I'm pretty sure it was not so long ago the powers that be said they would only consider overseas players who had settled here in Ireland...
I will never forget Ijaz Ahmed's 147 not out from 67 ball against Cliftonville 2 years ago in a 40 over match for Waringstown. 13 fours and 10 sixes I think he hit.
I recall seeing Dros in the Civil Service anniversary game doing a wild bit of tonking into what is now the carpark on the city side at Stormont - as for big hits - Everton Mattis playing for North Fermanagh against Ballymena in a Sunday game at St. Patrick's Barracks pinged one about 2/3rds up the wall of the assault course that was at least 90 yards from the middle. 5x6s and 10x4s in an innings of 74 n.o.
Robert Black, are you the same guy that plays at are club ? If so we now have our own web-site incase you weren't aware !!
On the weather. It's a bit of a set back alright for groundmen etc. But I would'nt be too pessimistic!
I said the other week that this cold snap was on it's way,but it's better to get it out of the way now and hopefully it will take up soon enough.
We have had three previous mild winters followed by three 'soggey' summers, in contrast to this very cold winter, so I predict it's going to be a hot,dry summer.
That's my long range forcast anyway!
Turk - thanks for reminding me, that six was off me! Our biggest mistake that day was to run Kyle out in about the 27th over, we had restricted you to 80-0 at that stage (a poker at one end ;-)
I had bowled 6 overs for 9 at the start and was handed the ball just as Drosser was hitting full stride. My final figures were 8-2-46-0 before my sympathetic skipper tried someone else (I think that monster 6 helped!)
But the funniest moment during the hour and a half of carnage was when Neil "The Noo" McDowell bowled Drosser a yorker which he hit into the ground and back to him. The Noo thought it was a c&b and hurled the ball a mile in the air, gave it a huge "Cmon" and started giving Drosser a send-off. Gerald simply ambled through for a single. Marvellous.
Folks
Our friendly organised for the 17th of April has fallen through. Anybody out there interested in either the 17th or 18th?? We would need to travel as our ground and pavilion will still be undergoing some work. I'm on 00353872584419 if so.
Did anyone else hear about the new cricket club being formed in East Down? I interested in playing this game and was wondering if indeed it is true that they are playing somewhere between Strangford and Portaferry?
there's a big fella that plays for dundrum IIs by the name of lowey. when he hits her she stays hit. hell of a dig he has
Just stumbled upon Woodvale's new website, well worth having a look at. Very well designed, easy to use and looks looks like it's going to have a lot of content worth checking out. Good luck with keeping it going, a lot of clubs would be delighted to get a site like that up and running
Turk - that innings from Dros was one of the most awesome bits of striking I have witnessed. 170 odd and he only got in the over after drinks ! Most of the numerous 6's he hit that day should have counted 10. The monster you referred to was a 12 - I was at long-on and it cleared me by miles. Tremendous stuff.
Delighted to see Woodvale's new website up and running.
I know there's a lot more to come from it. However even in it's early form, I must say I'm very impressed. Really look forward to future articles and updates.
Big shout out to Rodney, Scotty and Paul
Well done lads...
Another cog in the wheel put in place.
Bit harsh Wayne!! I have been known to edge the odd one to the boundary
