Still feelin 'the aches & pains' !

27th Sep 2010

A 'dibbly dabbly' bowler at only 43 !

Ivan I think you're right,
Andy is maybe being a little hard on himself on purpose, using a little 'reverse physicology', sign of a good skipper to give the younger bowlers on his side a little more confidence in their own ability !!!

I have to do it all the time when I'm playing and it seems to work !

Bye the way, thanks to Academy C.C. for heading down on Saturday to Lurgan Park and completing the final league fixture in div.2, sect.3 2nds-v-2nds respectively.

At such a late time in the season, the match had been already rearranged twice before, with both sides around mid-table, it could have all been too easy to call it 'quits', but not so, the game was played and a cracking encounter it turned out to be !

Thanks again lads.

I didn't pick Brian and Ralph for the reasons every one assumes. No one at Muckamore has hidden our desire to assemble a team to play Premier League cricket. We regularily played 5 teenagers who are the future of our club which hopefully will be in the Premier League for a long time to come.
No one picked Neil Gill in their team this season. Macca took 29 wickets for our 1sts and he bowled less overs than most.I haven't the figures at hand but he certainly didn't take many rabbits. He bowled ahead of our spinners most weeks and will still do a job as a seamer and skipper in the Premier League. There will be very few better prepared or motivated teams. His comment earlier in the year which upset some about him being a 43 year old dibbly dabbly bowler was him being very modest. The best over I seen bowled this season was the 4th over of our 20/20 win over Instonians when Macca bowled a maiden. Keep underestimating him please.

rob - i was trying to pick a team of players non muckamore. Jason impressed me that much this year i could not leave him off. Macca had a top season and consistently put the ball in the right area. He even played an important match winning innings with the bat against armagh.

Bags and ralph would walk onto my team if i was picking muckamore players but i was trying to give credit to other good performers in the league.

RE: Rob Young & Ivan's (excluding pro's)

Perhaps a freudian slip with the ommission of Bags and Ralph, maybe they were pro's afterall...?

Also I take it you were refering to East Belfast Airways...?

Interesting that neither Wayne or Ivan have picked Brian Baguley or Ralpn Coetzee on their teams - both professionals ? or just not could enough to get on ?

Also very commendable to see the show of solidarity in picking Macca on their eleven and although my brother did I doubt he would have made it onto many peoples team .Hardly realistic to pick him ahead of the numerous other candidates available .When you have forty overs from Kammy,Ralph,Cardwell and Gill its enevitable someone will pick up a few wickets at the end - a bit reminiscent of a certain unnamed team in the Premier - aeroplanes spring to mind.

Have left out any players who gained some sort of retribution for playing eg Horwood -a new bike to bring him back to his roots !Bags and Ralph - both who would have walked on and any of the pros.Have also gone for an attack with genuine pace rather than military mediums. You also have the ginger whinger (Davey Munn)to give you a quality spin option and plenty of batsmen whocan bowl as well !

it is hard to pick teams of year. People talk about stats but based on my viewing of opposition, results here is the team i feel had the biggest impact on their teams over the course of the season to winning matches. I am excluding my own club members in most cases and i have added brief rationale for choice .

1. Z rushe - stand out innings to beat muckamore in only defeat of season. Very talented and his bowling could come out of the closet next season and do ok.
2. N cahill/s hegarty - either or really. Both seemed to have good seasons. Any time they did well their teams did well. A lot of runs.
3. M hutchinson - the class act of the league.
4.J van der merwe - for one so young he has a top cricketing brain. Will stand him in good stead next year.
5. A nixon - again a top innings to beat muckamore, a lot of runs and a good seamer.
6. P mccormick - best all rounder in the league and a number of match winning performances with bat and ball
7. r adair - class knock against muckamore and nearly won a game that looked lost. Excellent talent
8. J maguire. Best off spinner in the league and a decent bat with it.
9. C boultwood - impt runs and keeping coming on leaps and bounds.
10. R bell - best seamer in the league by a country mile and v impt runs.
11. Macca - my skipper got a bit of flack and despite being the blindest git i have seen he stood up and was counted with the ball all year and got impt wickets for zip all.

The stats would be interesting reading

if i was playing fantasy cricket craig lewis would be in every week. Awesome striker and top 50 against muckamore. ross boultwood, andy bassett and paul robinson could all slot on easily.
