5.
So with a man he knew, who runs the N.C.U
He called and had some kindly words,
Now a brand new team is no longer just a dream,
He has given onto us 'Victoria.. the Thirds'.
6.
The skipper of this team he was
He steered her well, without faux-pas,
No team of his, from league withdraws
And to his credit and much applause
All bar one did they play,
Beating Bangor on the way
And so it proved an erstwhile, worthy cause.
For verse's 1.2.3.4. 7.& 8. see details of previous post.
With the season all but over now, may I say thank-you to all the hard working officials who run the office of the N.C.U. including the Umpires and a special mention goes to Wylie McKinty.
His N.C.U. website was a pleasure to read and always up-to-date, even at the lower levels all match results were entered and updated on the relevant league tables very quickly and that takes commitment indeed. Well done Sir !
And while I'm here, could I be a little self-congratulatory and say well done to the managment of my own club, Victoria.
We may be considered a 'small outfit' by comparison to others, but this has been the club's most successful season ever, by 'a long shot'!
Our 1st team finished third in their league, our seconds mid-table, but our greatest success was our 'fledging' third team, created, inspired and led by Gregory Mullin, they fulfilled every fixture bar one and even managed to 'bag' a few wins on their merry way.
Greg himself is standing down this year as third's skipper, previously having amongst other posts within the club, been the second's Captain for many years.
And boy that's been tough going at times, but he leaves a once 'battle-weary ship',well primed, rebuilt and ready for action next season.
I've composed a 'little' tributory poem by way of thanks and appreciation for his sterling service to Victoria C.C. and I'll re-post a couple of verse's on here, (Editor permitting) for readers to have a look at, but feel free to log onto our website to read the complete version.

The funeral of our friend and colleague Alan Waugh will take place on Friday 17th September at 12.30pm from St Patricks Church of Ireland, Jordanstown Road, Newtownabbey. The NIACUS wish to extend their most sincere sympathy to the Waugh Family and our thoughts and prayers are with them at this sad time.
On behalf of Academy CC I would like to add our condolences to the Waugh family. Alan will be sadly missed by all who knew him. I remember playing against him many years ago, a spinner who could turn it quite a bit & then an umpire with a word and grin for everyone. A big loss to NCU cricket. RIP Alan
I was very shocked and saddened to hear of Alan's passing last night. I first remember Alan playing for the lower C'ville teams when I was there and he watched alot of games at greenisland. A friendly umpire and someone who put in alot of work, time and effort into umpiring on and off the field, and will no doubt be missed by the rest of his colleagues and players in the NCU. I would like to pass on my condolences to the Waugh family at this Difficult time.
All at Moylena were shocked and saddened by the news of Alan Waugh's death. A good umpire who mixed well with the players, he will be missed around the grounds of the NCU. On behalf of all at Muckamore Cricket Club, please pass on our condolences to his entire family circle.
In addition to all the other messages of condolence, We at Woodvale, send our sympathies to the Waugh family circle.
Really saddened to hear of the death of Alan Waugh. Alan was a good umpire to share a joke with out in the middle and a gent off the park.
Condolensences to his family circle.
Shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden death of my old friend Alan Waugh. He will be sadly missed by his friends in Greenisland and Cliftonville cricket. Best remembered as an umpire, he will always be in my thoughts as a team mate and a wise old head for the young guns that John Solanky introduced to cricket at Greenisland in the 1980's.
Our condolences to his family at this sad time.
On behalf of my dad Andy who is currently on holiday can I pass on deepest sympathy to Alans family. He was very saddened by this news and passes on his condolences at this sad time.
I was very saddened to hear of Alan Waugh's sudden passing. It is scary to think that he was fit and well at ND's final game vs CIYMS just last saturday.
Very sad news and i extend my sincere condolences to Alans family at this really sad time.
RIP Alan
Alan Waugh
It is with great sadness that we have learned of the untimely death of Alan. He was a genuine lover of cricket and through umpiring he found his niche. he worked hard for the umpires behind the scene and he was a popular official throughout the union and beyond when umpiring. Coupled with the sad passing of Harry Henderson, this has been a tough week for the umpiring fraternity and we extend sincere condolences to both family circles.
Condolences to the Waugh family circle from all at Dundrum cc and umpire Ronnie Mcalpine on the sudden passing of Alan a true gentleman who will be sadly missed by umpires clubs and scorers. If someone could possibly post the funeral details on here it would be appreciated .
I'm sure I speak for all players and officials around the Union when I express my sadness and regret at the sudden passing of Alan Waugh. Alan was not only a fine umpire but a decent bloke and Ulster cricket will be the lesser for his loss. :(
Sympathies to the family circle from all at Armagh CC.
Sam - the net runs rates are on the NCU website. Millpark still have one game to play so run rates may not come into it. However, if they fail to win their final game against Cregagh on Sunday, or if it is scrubbed because of the weather, they have a comfortable advantage over Cooke Collegians and should be promoted.
