I know a lot of the Irish guys read this website so congratulations from everyone at the Ulster Cricketer and good luck in the other matches. This was a huge step for Irish cricket and a performance up there with the best in recent times.
Well done everyone in SA.

Graham,
Thanks for the info. I must admit, I haven't seen the plaque at your club but I suppose when you get beaten, the last thing you want to do is to have a look around LOL. It's interesting stuff. I hope you guys have the speach mounted in a prominent place or minuted as to where the records are stored for future historical 'dabblers' like me! I will make a point of jotting down their names the next time I get to Cregagh. That might not be for a while as Phil did such a bad job and got your seconds promoted!
To Steve Max
Just on the area you are discussing with Clarence, we now have a plaque up in the clubroom with the members names who served in the 1st World War and the members who made the ultimate sacrifice. We came across a minute book from the 1920's with all the names listed and the speech from the secretary at the time when the memorial ground was purchased. You never know where the clubs history is until you start looking for it, good luck to you if you are thinking about embarking on research of Dundrum, I found past players to be a great source of information, at Cregagh we have been very lucky to have past members such as Jimmy Irvine and Joe Ingram. Joe Ingram is no longer with us but the family put us in the right direction.
re neil gelston and jeff, the tickets are priced £35,tables of ten.
Let me know if you are interested? cheers
There's was box of Clarence's books in the Cricket Office at the House of Sport. That's where I got mine. And by the way Clarence there is an envelope in the box with a 'few quid' in it from other sales as well!! Hope it's still there when you call to collect.
Will do Stevie as I hope to see a lot of him at the crease over the weekend. Not much between these teams and if KP and Freddy played for Ireland we might have a better team than England!
Contact Peter at Premier Sports in Comber and he'll get a book to you. I hope you enjoy it.
Best wishes,
Clarence
PS
Thanks Vic. The Grasshoppers are planning a veterans tour to South Africa next year and I think you would certainly qualify. Get your name down!
Clarence,
Interesting stuff. So where can I pick up this book? Somewhere a bit more local to me than 'your neck of the woods' would be nice! If you see Freddy over there, tell him to come home and rest for the Botany Bayers in the summer!
The Grasshoppers Tour.
I'd like to agree with the previous posters and congratulate Neil,Paul and indeed the Ed.Clarance for their excellent, informative and descriptive writings regarding the Grasshoppers Tour of India.
All concerned were a credit to their clubs & country and it was great reading about cricket in a far away land during these last few winter months.
Well done men!
Stevie, this is a fascinating subject and in my research for the History of Senior Cricket in Ulster" book I was able to uncover a lot of material on those who served in both wars. Clubs like Waringstown, North and North Down had more material because their histories are better documented than most clubs, but virtually every cricket club answered the call. Those who made the supreme sacrifice are listed on war memorials throughout Ulster and the book was dedicated in their honour.
I was reading about Cregagh Cricket Club in the Club focus section of NCU Site and was interested to see that the First World War had a massive impact on the club. The First World War impacted most people living in Northern Ireland or Ireland as it was then, I was wondering if clubs have any records of members, playing or non-playing at the time, who fought and fell or survived the tragedies in France, Belgium, etc? My local church in Clough has a plague on the wall with the names of the fallen but I don't think any of them played in Dundrum CC.
I would just like to agree with other posters in commending Neil Russell for a superb article on the Grasshoppers tour to India. It was excellently written and has given us all a great insight into the good, bad and the complexities of touring life within India.
Well done Neil and to all the Grasshoppers on what comes across as a superb tour.
Well Taito mate, hows the training going for the start of the new season? Everything well i hope. Seen your e-mail about the sportspersons dinner on saturday 30th May. Just checking how much the tickets cost? Might try and get a table sorted.
