Bit hard on Mark there James. Actually even harder to understand what you are saying. What's age got to do with the continuation of a cup match as opposed to a bowl-out? If you want to play cricket then you want to play cricket. Ask people like Billy Dale if he could make it for 6 o'clock on a Monday night to continue a senior cup semi-final and you'll get a proper cricket answer.

If I was young, single and under 40 James I'd be worried about what I was going to do on a Monday night! Surely most senior players practice on Monday nights anyway. Doesn't anyone want to play cricket these days?

Looks can be deceiving Robin...

'Mark' I can only assume you are over 40/45 years of age, or older.
I can't see a lot of young PLAYERS coming on here and suggesting what you are - yours is an old school mentality.
Ask the North Down guys )for example) if they want to play Saturday and Sunday every week and then throw in a Monday and Tuesday night at the Lawn...
Maybe if you're young, free and single - then you'll play every night of the week!!!
Ed?

Response

I'm not in favour of weeknight continuation James, but I'm certainly not a bowl out man either. Re-arrangements for me.

James are you serious? Come on this is the senior cup and you are saying you can't get to a venue for a 6pm start on a Monday evening resumption which will possibly happen once in a 'blue moon'. Maybe never happen with that attitude! Let's be positive and think in terms of the other 21 players can make it.

Its one thing getting to your own ground for practice on a Monday night for 6.30/6.45 for a net, quite another getting to a ground a hour away for a 6pm resumption.

The clubs surely need to come forward with something to replace the bowl out in the Senior Challenge Cup. This decision method is not suitable at any stage in this prestigious competition. Perhaps resorting to the Monday evening continuation is not such a bad idea. How many times has the continuation rolled on beyond Monday and isn’t Monday a practice night for most first elevens anyway?

couldn,t agree more with you Mark
since the bowl out rule came into the senior cup 4 years ago certain clubs seem to want to bowl out rather than play a game of cricket.

One rule change could be that the home team loses home advantage for the 2nd attempt and what on earth is wrong with the old rule that play continues on the next available date after a rain interruption, this is our showpiece competition after all and speaking from experience is every cricketers holy grail around the Comber area.
Surely we as a union should sit down with club captains at the end of the season and debate these issues.
if Johnny Bushe and Robin Haire can agree that no bowl out should be used in the senior cup anything is possible guys, its not that often Waringstown and North Down agree on anything.

ps The Lawn looked tremendous last weekend hanging baskets and all, a super place to play cricket.

Well done Instonians and North Down on reaching the cup final but would anyone have been happy if the bowl-out had to be used in the semi-finals? OK in the 1st round maybe but surely not after that? And with three weeks to go! Look at this silly rule guys.
