COME ON ENNNGGGEEERRLAANNDD! I FOR ONE HOPE THEY GO THRU THEN DUMP THE ARGIES AS WELL . If they play with high tempo of premier an fa cup style game they will get too semi final an then who knows 1966 team will lose out on fortune of after dinner speaking . ps andy k do you like anything apart from slagging everyone ?pps Downpatrick v North Down tonight at 6pm 20/20 might be worth a visit for few beers
Capello won't need Morgan 'cos he's Irish. Unlike the Germans, the english players are all English. Podolsky, Klose, Mr Sheen all polish, Cacau Brazilian, Marin from former Yugoslavia and thats the ones i know of!
That's right Jim - learned that result on the way home from Stormont - apparently they took Slovenia apart 1-0 and now face the Germans in the next round. And of course they beat the Germans back in 1966 - but then we never hear about that do we so that's alright then! Thankfully I'm committed to cricket over the next few days so I'll miss Gary Linekar & Co. going on about what they will regard as the greatest resurrection since Lazarus. And does anyone else think that Mick McCarthy has the most annoying "voice" on T.V. On today's game itself, there is no doubt that Stormont is devoid of atmosphere at the best of times but with a crowd of 100 (if that) the atmosphere was nil. Some good performances on both sides with batsmen getting in but not "taking it on". Don't think I'll be rushing up on Friday.
P.S. - heard a whisper at the match today that Capello was indeed ringing Eoin Morgan to see if he could play football.
Andy just to let you know England won't be meeting France at the airport and they won't be getting a new coach at the airport either. Instead they are still in it, anooying to you at it may seem, they are still in it to win it!!
Ah good man Park-ranger, thanks for giving up some of those numerous tea-breaks of yours and double rolling the Lurgan Pk. cricket pitch last week, it certainly had the desired effect !
Although with the great dry spell of weather we've all been enjoying, I'd say every batting track in the country is a good one at present.
I see already, there seems to be plenty of runs being scored all round by all teams at every level.
Ireland going well at present !
Now if that century had of been in the green of Ireland, they would have given the Aussies a right old thumping in Clontarf last week.
On the other hand, take his century away from England, would they have one?
Seems he made the dieffence in both results
Good luck today to the Ireland cricket team against the West-Indies A team down at Stormont.
Maybe Andy can give us a resume of how it went and the days craic when he gets home to-night..... if he's able ??
And what about Eoin Morgan's unbeaten ton against ODI world champs, Australia yesterday..... Brilliant !
He takes England to a higher level again and makes them exciting to watch, wonder can he play scoccer ?????
Andy & Jim,
Totally agree there with your sentiments regarding those brave young men & women out in Afghanistan and Iraq etc.
I salute their courage and god bless them !
Andy,
For a change I do agree with you. My son has a pal heading off to Afghanistan this week and he has only turned 18 never mind 19. So it is fitting to put it all in perspective when we are sending kids off to a war zone. Bless them all.
sorry Jim but "my boys" i.e. Muckamore aren't in the soccer World Cup! Is there anyone out there who shares my view of Mr. Hansen's comments that the English players looking tired? £80K per week, luxury hotels and coaches to the matches! 19 year-old kids fighting in Afghanistan might justifiably feel "tired" occasionally!
Anyway - looking forward to Stormont on Wednesday - just hope I don't "fall in" with the guys from Victoria & Woodvale as on the England game
Andy I see your boys made it to the world cup this year. healy and davis were spotted hanging outside the stadiums autgraph hunting!
I like 'the cut of your jib' Andy, but I don't think Jim and the English contingents will share a similiar disposition? Keep them at it !!
just to please Jim - there's a couple of stories doing the rounds on text at the moment. "On Monday Argentina meet Brazil in Cape Town. Tuesday Spain meet Italy in J'burg and on Wednesday England meet France-- at the airport!!"
Also "breaking news - England have a new coach! It'll be picking them up at Heathrow on Thursday!"
And on a serious note - glad to hear that James F. McCall is OK after his mishap of being struck at Ballymena on Saturday.
Any idea when the semi-final draw is the challenge cup?
Tonight
Jim, would'nt like to see England go out, but they do make awful hard work off it ! You must agree !!
Anyway there's a wee problem at the minute with our web-site which our administer is currently trying to repair.
Wish he'd get a move on though, I've alot of writing and 'reporting' to be getting on with, as I'm sure you'll appreciate !!!
