Vic,
Must admit Australia at home will be hard to compete with, but feel England have a good shout. Feel a close series battle ahead maybe a series draw... (odds please JEFF!!)

Have to agree vic-england are not the best and ozzies on their own patch pretty awesome. Had the pleasure in 06/07 of witnessing the 5 nil drubbing of england after the elation of 2005-so again the english media talking up the english after an ashes victory at home etc. If england win fairplay but its not as clear-cut as the english media make out. What i would say the english CRICKET fans are great on tour and after being at the boxing day test in 2006 when warne took his 700th wicket and england all but 4-nil down-30,000 english people(and a few irsih) still sang all the classic supporters songs

I have Ryan,

But you know how dangerous 'a wounded tiger' can be and on it's own patch as well !

By contrast, England the form team ??

Wins this summer past against Bangladesh, (Ireland could and have beaten them) and a cheating, uninterested Pakistan team, come on now Ryan !

We're havin this debate at present on our own cricket web-site and our chaps are also talking about England winning, Bell stepping up to the mark and Swann's bowling being 'the key' !

But then again they run up to Mourneview Pk. and cheer on Glenavon F.C. thinking they'll win a game too !

Says it all really !!

Vic,

Have you been following Australia over the past 12 months? England are in the box seat and if they have the killer instinct should win the series on form...two bad lots really!

Dear love them.. (The English cricket team)!

I got the Sky sports upgrade the other day to take in the upcoming Ashes Test series, which I'm looking forward too immensely.

I see England are already talking themselves up and confidently believe they will be retaining the urn and ultimately win the series, but we've heard this all before and when it comes down to it, does anyone outside the English team themselves really give them a chance ?

That's be realistic here, good old England might salvage a draw or two if the weather's kind to them and it rains,
but I'll put my cricket reputation and my 'head on the block' and predict a 5 or 4 nil drubbing for 'the pommes' !

Or my name ain't Vic Johns !!

Re- 8 team leagues, 10 team leagues, ulster leagues, ireland leagues and even 10,000 leagues under the sea for that matter...!

How bewildering I find it that a minority bunch of tinkermen have been aloud to play havock with the local game.
Does everyone not realise that locally the game is in a massive demise and facilitating a few ego driven clubs will be a hammer blow to the local game.
Remember, the vast amount of cricket in this country is played by the local clubman and not the "money men" or those "merceneries" permenantly standing with their hands out...!
Can everyone who simply wants to play "cricket" in this country please wake up and stop sleepwalking...!
Please reclaim this sport for the cricket fans and please knock all these imbecillic aspirations back out of the ground for six.

Viva the Revolution, Revolution...!

Both NWCU and NCU need to focus on improving whats currently in place before setting clubs "a drift" by heading down an Ulster League route. Same logic would apply for an All -Ireland league.

Interesting article on Ulster League although it has been around for a while. As a former North-West cricketer I would welcome closer contact between the two unions as the best would play the best but by extension is there any point unless you go to the next stage and bring in Leinster in an all Ireland league of eight teams? The interprovincials aren't coming back so a national league seems to fill the gap. But at the end of the day clubs have to step forward and say they want it and it is good that these guys are bringing it back to the table to find out. Why don't they to canvass the clubs in a questionaire or why doesn't the UC do it independently?
