Congrats to Ivan and Stephen on their induction to the Hall of Fame.

Clearly two superb ambassadors and cricketers. I dont know Stephen that well but i always enjoy Ivans company at the odd cricket game and Grasshopper nights throughout the year.

Congrats to you both. Much deserved.

There's a storm brewing !

11th Nov 2010

The Ireland cricket team did'nt poach any English player, they just reclaimed back one of their own !
Maybe if it doesn't work out for Morgan, he will come back to the fold as well, although in saying that, hope the lad gets onto the Test team down under and has a good Ashes tour. (They'll need somebody too !)

Nice to see Ivan Anderson & Stephen Warke inducted into the Irish Cricketing hall of fame.(Mighty players indeed)!

Who says we don't produce any talent ?

For a small country with limited resourses, inclement weather, etc. We 'punch' well above our weight and even produce the odd sporting genius and world superstar every now & again !

Bye the way, did anyone see that premier league match last nite, (Man.City-v-Man.Utd.), I could'nt find any cricket on my new Sky sports upgrade, so I stole myself an hour or so to watch it. Dear, dear, dear !
Hard to believe they actually pay those players, when that's the best they can do ! Dreadful !!

Roll on the 25th Nov. To we see some decent entertainment!!

Jeff.

Dont put in clay wickets! They really need a fast draining ground...each ground is different and should be treated accordingly!

roll on the derbys !!!!

TAYTO , Yes seen Gavin working overtime lots and just shows how great groundsman Ivan Reid was an no finer stalwarts too cricket than GROUNDSMEN ill say this we would love clay wickets in the meadow an are in discussion about laying 2 next year as no guarentee they work as well with as everyone knows the water table of the moneycarragh river ( my opinion is every wicket is diff an play too your strengths ) but we at Dundrum have big plans at the minute too improve every aspect of facilities on an off the pitch so just because we are a small junior club in only name we will strive too join the ranks of the premier clubs an no doubt 10 years ago we never dreamed that we could be beating premier clubs like DOWNP/WOODVALE/CLIFTONVILLE/ but no reason to stop working to have targets and goals of playin at the best grounds an competing againest the best ( just too late for me )

Jeff, jonty

Jonty, funny post it certainly would be some place if that were true, but as we are not living in a fantasy world i will not expect any hotels or stands when i visit the meadow next season. As for my bowling that is all in the past it was costing the club too much in lost balls so i have taken up wicket keeping (or stopping) that way i dont have to worry about fetching balls.

Jeff, yes we had a few problems with our pitches last year but i have no doubt they will be back to their best this season, big gav worked so hard last year in preparing the pitches but the square was just so dry all summer we just couldnt get them right on most occassions. Work has been carried out which will hopefully sort this out.

re final at Dundrum.
I think it's quite obvious that a major final in Dundrum would not be suitable at present.
But with the work going on behind the scenes in Dundrum, we would hope that this situation would change in the near future. The fact that we were chosen, albeit by default, to stage an international youth match was enough for us to get our heads down and strive to make playing, changing and spectating conditions much better in The Meadow. Most people would agree that Dundrum CC has the an idyllic setting and if we can improve the facilities, then we could have a club/ground everyone will enjoy playing at.

Funny you should mention that tayto. I hear Dundrum have got a grant for 500,000 pounds. Apparantly they are putting in stadium on the hill above the sight screens at the pavillion end so that one of the 3000 supporters can catch the ball that has just been drove past you for 6!

Furthermore they are spending 100,000 on the ground by lifting it 6 feet and putting in 14 new wickets. They have also got permission to remove the river as when you bowl at the river end too many balls like to go for a swim.

Finally, another 100,000 pounds is being spent on a 50 room hotel that will replace the caravan that the pro stays in. The rooms will be used for his benefit night in case people can't make it home.

THERES ONLY ONE MEADOW = DUNDRUM

11th Nov 2010

TAYTO . think Roy meant some of the minor finals as i for one would agree with you an i no we both can have wet grounds an i no your own pitch got lot negative response last remember a video from facebook last year during the your game with north down wasnt very commplentary ( strangford road an comber my fav grounds bar THE MEADOW DUNDRUM ).Think the demense Saintfield at the minute has lot going for it lovely fast wickets an worthy of at least a junior cup final as no harder worker than WAR .Think be good see the senior cup final go around each year too the big grounds with good bar facilities an no finer than STRANGFORD ROAD as great setting for final . as for the derby games ill be BETTING with any1 but you .

11th Nov 2010

Roy, as nice a setting dundrum is i dont think the onfield conditions would be suitable for a cup final never mind the off field conditions. As much to do with where they are based it can be very wet and the pitches wouldnt be the greatest in the world, certianly not good enough for a senior cup final. (i am sure this will get a response from jeff, i have to stir the pot before the derby games next season)

Challenge Cup Final 2011

What a nice touch for the NCU Challenge Cup final be played at Wallace Park Lisburn - in the clubs 175th year.

I like the idea of moving the final venue each year among the suitable grounds. Wallace Park is a worthy venue that has recent years of experience hosting the Junior Cup.

It would be nice to see a final at Dundrum - a lovely ground, but the off field facilities may prevent this. Also it would be good to see finals at Woodvale, Templepatrick, Muckamore or Holywood - clubs that recently put a lot of time and money into improving their grounds.

I think it's disgraceful that Ireland have poached one of the most promising young England players.

How can they expect to be taken seriously on the international stage when they can't produce young Irish talent ;-)

Hind-sight is a wonderful thing !

10th Nov 2010

While it's good to see Ed Joyce back and eligble to play for the Irish cricket team again, I wonder if, deep down he ever regrets leaving the Ireland camp in the first place were he was an established top Irish International cricketer and then deciding to defect and play for England ?

My point being, he may have had much more success had he stayed where he was !

Any views ?
