Premier League :

1. R. McCann +
2. N. Jones
3. R. Haire
4. J. Shannon
5. K. McCallan
6. P. Eakin
7. D. Simpson
8. E. Moeleon
9. Z. Rushe
10. G. Kidd
11. S. Hughes

Picking Rory McCann as wicketkeeper pushes Chris Dougherty out, and it was a toss up between David Simpson and Taimur Kahn at number 7.

Can't pick a captain as 6 PL captains and the Ireland A skipper!!

Wylie - I appreciate the problems that League secretaries encounter - I was involved with the Divisional Committee some years ago - but I felt that to void a game in the particular circumstances was a bit harsh. Is there no facility for discretion anymore?

Andy
The league secretary should always be informed of the date of rearranged matches.
If clubs agree between themselves the date for a rearranged game and don’t inform their league secretary then problems arise. Say if on the day of their rearranged match the rain comes (as it has done this year regularly) and they decide to put it off until another day and then another day and so on, then they could effectively have more than the permitted 2/3 goes allowed at playing the game thus gaining an unfair advantage over other teams who stick to the rules regarding rearranged games.
It also means the league secretary has no knowledge of how many attempts have been made to play the game. Being a league secretary is hard enough even without all this sort of thing going on. My whole Sunday evening yesterday was taken up with trying to get teams in Section 2 and Junior 3 to agree dates to play rearranged games until the end of September. Some want to play and some don’t. Others just continually ignore emails and texts.

As life member of north down I would like to congratulate the church of ireland young men's society on winning the premier league. As I don't watch cricket on the sabbath I would like to extend best wishes to Jack and Mrs McCullough.

no doubt I'll be accused of "slagging off" but I was scrolling down the "Junior League" section of the NCU site and I was surprised to see that a game in Junior 4 was "voided" because the "League Secretary had not been advised of the rearrangment"! In view of the limited amount of cricket played this summer am I alone in thinking that this is petty bureaucracy getting in the way of cricket being played? I know therer are Rules and I understand - sometimes - the thinking behind them but should common sense not prevail? So two sides agree a rearrangement (I understand that the game was rearranged from the Saturday to the next Tuesday i.e. 3 days later) and play a match where both sides agree the result. I thought we had moved away from the days of games being decided other than on the field! Page 180 - NCU General Rules 1 (b) "the object of the Union shall be to promote --, etc."

the nights are fair drawin' in and I reflecting on the season that has just passed. One of the innovations was the introduction of "Power Plays" and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what sort of impact it had on those Divisions where they applied.

Can I ask, is there any concessionary price for young cricketers wishing to attend the NCU dinner this year?? £27.50 seems a lot for schoolboys (even though they probably eat as much as the adults). Im sure there are many young lads in a lot of the junior teams who would be keen to attend.

Re Start Times

Can all clubs please be fair and adhere to the start times as set out in the rules of the NCU. My club has a crucial away match on Saturday that we need to win in order to avoid relegation - we have been told by our opponents that it will be a 1.30pm start ! If we don't accept the start time they won't be able to get a team and will scratch the match - but if there has been any rain they will say their ground is unplayable and not give us the points !!

What do you do ?????

To all groundsmen

If you have some wickets that have been unused this year make sure and scarify the life out of them. Treat them as a used wicket rather than an unused wicket.

Do not think because you have not used them that you can leave them and use them next year. If you do, you will have a major thatch problem.

Emigrating to Katmandu !

3rd Sep 2012

Isn't it just typical, after the met-office announced last week it was officially the wettest summer on record for 100 years and with a frustrating cricket season, now practically in it's dying embers, the kids all back to school and the footballers as usual taking over the whole place again!

The country-file weeks weather forecast now tells us we're in for a good week, with high-pressure moving in over us all from the west !

Where was it in the months of April/May/June/July & August ?

And congratulations from me too on Muckamore C.C. fine win in the National Cup. Well deserved indeed !
