Don't wish to blow our own trumpet but Cooke Collegians teas are far and away the best. Whether it's ones or twos there's always a fine array. Last week the pick was chicken salad with finely sliced strawberry, a masterpiece. Pity our cricket isn't quite as good.

Regarding grounds. It depends what you mean by best ground. If you are talking about scenic grounds then I dont think any come close to Dundrum with the surrounding moneycarragh river and backdrop of the mourne mountains, on a sunny day there really cant be any nicer. In terms of best pitches / tracks I would have to say my personal favourite is Saintfield. It's a strange option for me because I have never hit runs there but it definately should be a batsmans paradise. The wicket is superb and the outfield isnt far behind it. I also like Waringstown, North Down and Downpatricks grounds. Last year when I played up at Laurelvale they had a good wicket too.

Think there are lots of nice grounds in the NCU but there could be a lot better in terms of wickets. Pity we couldnt pour some money into our grounds rather than other things....this really would improve our cricketers.

scenic grounds? Have to declare an interest here but the one that is head & shoulders above them all has to be Moylena - especially on a sunny day and the "Galway Girl" nicely chilled!!

R.E Grounds - we are really lucky to have some lovely locations to play cricket in the NCU, Comber still has to be my favourite, but Saintfield would be a close second, really lovely, well maintained and a batsmans paradise!

jeff, long weekend indeed fergs. Yeah as far as i know the ground was always the meadow, but it became known as strangford road for some reason. I dont mind either way.

My next favourite ground after our place would have to be north down, followed by the lawn.

Hi Jeff

As far as i'm aware the full address of our ground is The Meadow, Strangford Road, Downpatrick. I and I'm sure many others would usually call it Strangford Road, but recently people have referred to it as The Meadow, not sure why.

Tato is off today so he is probably a way back to bed after posting on here this morning, it was a long weekend and i'm not talking about just playing two games!!!!!

In responce to your question, I would have to pick Comber as my second favourite ground after "Strangford Road"

taito , thats bit RICH asking him put his name too it when you wont pay up on a BET ,LOL .must be something about that superb ground strangford road 6 wickets no runs + last year we dropped 4 catches in 4 balls their also.I did say Downpatrick will win league & 8 wins out 9 says you odds on favs & fair play too your team . Dundrum might be short of squad depth but they deff will be pushing as someone has too finish second even if we dont BET on it ,ps our capt throws bats gloves punches steel doors so your not on your own . as for throwing bats at over 200£ they must be paying both yous too much .Dundrum beat Derriaghy by 117 runs ( yes they were short but we wernt full strength either ) be more competitive at

I would like to clear up that the person who threw the bat was not JC it was actually myself. I am sure i am not the only player ever to do so. Yes it was wrong, anger and the red mist had taken over.
Apologies were made to the umpires after the game.

With regards losing 6 wickets for no runs, i have never seen anything like that before, but we will live to fight another day. Testament to my team we bounced back to win yesterday.

You would think you would be man enough to put yur name beside your postings.

Response

Keep up the good work at The Meadow Taito, we are all looking forward to playing there in the Premier League again from 2010!

In the case of the bat throwing incident at the Downpatrick match on Saturday, I would like to let whoever wrote the previous post that in fact it had nothing to do with me!!! I have just bought a new bat and have no intention of throwing it anywhere. I just wish whoever writes on this forum at least gets their facts straight first before blaming anyone in the WRONG!!!

re diving for cover.....

Who ever you are, (why are you not putting your name to your comment) you may have been at the game, but you don't seem to know your players as it wasn't James Cunningham.

And as for the decision that lead to the batsman being given out, well thats another story.

Just want to point out that it was not James Cunningham who threw his bat on Saturday.....the big guy actually took his dismissal well and appears to have mellowed somewhat over the winter!
