I don't recall making any reference to any individual in my earlier posting - indeed my posting was in the plural! I was referring to the fact that the NCU was highlighting an area that some umpires need to examine themselves.

Vic
I don't hold any grudges, just make sure your wearing a helmet if I ever have to bowl at you in Victoria! LOL.

Once more, you have excelled yourself in your descriptive comments regarding 'the majority' of cricketers. Alas, maybe you wrote that whilst sitting in front of the mirror. Your effluent as you describe it is not from the bull, it usually comes from a silo.

Face Facts......the MAJORITY of local club cricketers only excercise during the winter months is pushing the button on the remote control...........thats why you see them "rolling out" like busted sofas in May ............ 2 sessions at the pre season indoor nets and the a match warm up is the extent of their preparations for the season........."BULLS EFFLUENT" must have been for sale at Tescos when you were there.

Andy, if you are referring to my incident last year, i think you will find that the diciplinary committee did issue me with a letter. So the matter was dealt with. So before you make a comment maybe you should be aware of the facts, not that im too sure what it would be to do with you anyway but just thought i would clear that up.

Interesting to see that Paddy O'Hara on the NIACUS site has picked up on the references to "indiscipline" as contained in the NCU report. Does this mean a more even-handed approach in reporting by umpires next season? It really was laughable to find that players were "confessing" on this site & nothing appeared to be done about it!

I would like to nominate bored stuffs comment as the most constructive in the history of the ulster cricketer's forum. Clearly a well thought out intellectual statement.

Hope all you players/wimps that claim that there are to many matches during the summer months are spending all these free saturdays/sundays doing your domestic duties...........you only have another 30 weekends to do your shopping before next season and you start whinging again

I am sure that all associated with NCU cricket will be pleased to learn of PLO'H's elevation as honorary VP of the NIACUS. While one may query the value of such an award (it isn't exactly and MBE!)it is undoubtedly a recognition of his services to cricket both on & off the field over many years. He is widely known & respected and fully deserves the honour.

Having read DK's posting and on a side issue - I did the Bangor/Instonians game this season and while I thought that Bangor were a bit "disorganised" in respect of field craft (and I quickly point out that this was shortly after the personnel changes) it was very clear that they have a lot of young talented players who will undoubtedly benefit from a season in the lower section and I would confidently predict that they will be "up there" in the running for promotion at the end of next season.

totally agree Andy ref Andy Ward and the moral of the story is valid/true. A fine young man is Hutchy but have a suspicion that if he was good enough to play for Ireland he would have done so by now. At best a good club player - hope he proves me wrong.......

on the question of moving to be recognised could I recount a true story? A few years ago Ballynahinch rugby club had a young wing forward who was advised by the then Ireland coach, Brian Ashton, that if he wished to progress in provincial or international rugby he would have to more to a more high-profile club. This guy stayed at Ballynahinch while the coach lost his job shortly afterwards. The young guy's name? Andy Ward. And he didn't do too bad! The moral is - if you're good enough, etc.

r.e one club man...

Fair statement about Hutchison, but hes still good enough to challenge for an Ireland spot and a move to a big club might be the incentive he needs. Im sure nobody at Bangor would stand in his way.
