Vic,
In second XI your unlikely to have any offical umpires, now when you're playing in Dundrum and you're fielding, I could be persuaded, depending on the offer...
Reminds me of a story (one of many) that Tommy Curlett tells. He was in a Dundrum side and was asked to umpire. The batsman at the other end was very Boycott (or is that Rodney Hassard) like in his approach and was scoring slowly. There was an appeal and Tommy forgot himself and appealled too! Needless to say, Tommy had to give him out as he had to practice what he appealled!

Yes Greg, read that on the Derriaghy site, good luck to Jake and I'll contact our secretary (if you have'nt already)about a donation from our club.

Andy,I wish I could raise such debate whenever I post! lol! Vic junior has stolen my thunder!!!

Bye the way, where you at the Umpires & Scorers meeting at Shaws Bridge on Mon evening past. I phoned in and asked the panel their views on increasing the match fee for all umpires,as a way of retaining current members and help to recruit more new faces.
Surprisingly the 4 Senior Captains seemed unaware of the paltry amount you guys earn for a long day in the field and the panel agreed unanimously that increased remuneration was a good idea.

(And no, I'm not looking any commission!!
Just the odd 50:50 lbw decision in my favour would be appreciated if you or your colleagues are umpiring a match for Victoria next season!lol!!).

Overton-
As a wee nipper in short trousers I went with my adult neighbours from Florida Drive beside the Ormeau Park who comprised the bulk of Loopvale C.C. and played in the parks League in the 1960s. Teams that I remember were Overton, Ravenswood, Hillview, Oakleigh, Shorts, Hugh J. Scott's and Palmerston. I remember playing against Hillview in Falls Park!!!
A representative side was selected and played against CIYMS and Bready.
Sadly the troubles terminated the parks League. The league fixtures were a simply 4 hour game and you could bat as long as you liked with a mid-week 20 over bash as well.
Some very good players, many of whom joined NCU clubs.

re: Overton
When I first started playing for Larne in about 1981 Overton were one of the teams in Division 1, Section 4.

RE - Overton

yes - Wylie - 10 points.

Overton became Templepatrick’s 3rd XI
in 1989. A step taken to allow those of their members a chance to continue to play. TCC made up the team numbers with youth players.

Overton.
THe side are no longer in existance, as per previous comments they were indeed part of Templepatrick CC but as players drifted and Templepatrick youth section grew the decision was take by the committee to retain the TCC name for the senior teams rather than the Overton name. I am not familiar with the origins or history of overton but a call has been placed with the Templepatrick club president in order to hopefully shed some light on the Overton story.

In the late 80s or early 90s they were struggling to compete in First XI cricket and became Templepatrick’s 3rd XI (someone from TC may be able to confirm this)

just read Danny's posting about Overton. Were they not in the Parks League - that's another slice of history. I thought that was where Ernie McCormick, Boyce & the Parkinsons started but I may be wrong. A name I recall (possibly wrongly) was a Major Shields trophy.

"Mary Hopkins" refers to "committment" and whilst I have no direct knowledge, I understand that some sides, such as St. Mary's from the Crumlin Road, area were "somewhat difficult" to play against. Did a certain Mr. Marno, who was a fiesty opponent, play for them before joining BRAFP when St. Mary's folded? And this was in the days of the "losing draw" when the side batting first had to bowl the opposition all out to get full points. Ballymena at The Mall hanging on for draw to ensure that Armagh forfieted 2 points and Trevor Barnes bowling the last overs underarm!! Ah happy days alright!!

Alan was indeed in the team and still doing well over in Drumaness. Cathal Bannon, Davy Mills and several others come to mind too. I wonder if it was Dennis and Trevor Lennon from Cooke and Trevor Lennon from Downpatrick you remember? Anyone remember the Tyrella and/or Minerstown team(s)?

I remember playing against them in the cup for CI 3s. Alan Mills of Drumaness was in their team. I also played againt Crossgar in the Colts Cup, they seemed to me made up of a lot of Lennons.
