Vic,
Yes we have. Many forumites know of Jeff (Weedy) Maguire. He is your typical clubman. Always wanting the best for Dundrum. Bollocking players for not turning up at practice. Enticing young people to the club, always on the look out for new signings. Dealing with the press, etc. Dundrum CC would not be the same if he wasn't involved. It's a pity his tips for the gee gees are poor though.... lol

Here? or maybe that should be... There??

Congratulations to all involved on the excellent news regarding the most welcome funding Woodvale CC have received for ground development.

A big "Thank You" to all involved in securing the funds. All your hard work and effort paid off.

Some great plans put forward regarding the development of the Ballygomartin Road ground.

Looking forward to some exciting times ahead. On AND Off the field.

Response

Maybe the club could forward us some further details...

Cheers Stevie,I think like yourself there's alot of fun and pleasure gained from cricket, not just from playing ourselves, but playing with and helping bring on the younger players too.
And ofcourse in the case of our Gerald and a few others in our club, playing with the more senior guys who apart from themselves don't realise that their best playing days are long since gone, and still wonder why they are not opening the bowling, batting etc.

I'm sure Dundrum and many other clubs have characters just like that as well!

Ivan
How many of those former cricketers gave the game up because the matches weren't long enough?

An even wetter Carrick

Greg, a few seasons later Robin Beggs took all 10 wickets for Carrick v Templepatrick. A slow bowler, Robin only opened the bowling that day because one of the normal openers arrived late as he had a puncture on the way. More recently Ryan Eagleson took 9 for Carrick v Cregagh but was denied the chance of taking all 10 as Cregagh only had ten men!

When you see the lists of clubs no longer in existence it makes you think again of the debate on more or less cricket. It looks like we are already playing less cricket and have a lot less cricketers.

A very wet Carrick

Jason, I remember playing for Carrick v Banbridge in a Section 6 match in the mid seventies. They played at the High School ground and when we arrived they were cutting the wicket using a hand lawnmower! This team didn't last long but I believe there may have been a Banbridge team in the NCU before this. Millpark were certainly going strong at the same time, as it was around this time that they bowled us out for 14 in the Junior cup with Billy McCart taking all ten wickets!
