I have to confess very belatedly that yes i forgot i had Bart's gear in my boot and as i was batting 10 in a two night game I arrived about half an hour after we lost our first wicket- BART!!
On Crooksie- Chris Harte and I were pacing the hospital floor when he met us to announce ' TWO WEE TEA LADIES'
Spot on Robin.
Nothing wrong with your memory but we'll have to ask the Bart why he didn't borrow gear. I suspect there weren't many of us there on time to ask!
Well Jim, England certainly rolled the Aussies over and very glad I was to see it ! The Australians are some cricketing outfit okay, but England were still to good for them on the nite and were worthy winners for sure....
Interesting article about the Irish Cricket President Basil McNamee, sounds like he's a great character and a formidable cricketer in his day!
One bit of trivia from me, his friend and playing colleague Dr Michael Crooks, oversaw the birth of my eldest son.
Being overjoyed at becoming a proud father of a fine bouncing baby boy, I thanked the good Doctor kindly and told him I was indepted to him always.
He just replied warmly that I was very welcome, but if my son grew up to become a cricketer; I would ensure that the boy must play for North-Down C.C. no less !
I acknowledged his request and bade him farewell..... and I haven't forgotten my promise !
hiler
dont know the car but remember a downpatrick umpire, bob law telling him he couldn,t bat unless he was dressed properly.why did he not put someone elses gear on .was the gear in b. dales car.
hope Jim enjoyed his champers - I understand that the Rest of the World certainly dominated yesterday. To put my views into perspective I certainly not an Anglophobe. My respect for them goes back to 1973 when Jeff Pullin's england team travelled to Dublin when Wales & Scotland thought it too dangerous despite the fact that we lived through it everyday! I use the word "understand" as I preferred to be at Lisburn yesterday to see "real" cricket. Lisburn 2s posting 274/6 (a free hiiting ton from JR) and Muckamore getting 236. Great entertainment and not a dancer in sight!
Well done Robin. Correct on Murray and Jack McMillan was the player struck off Bart's Christmas card list. Here's another ND farce to remember...in whose car was the Bart's gear when he was timed out against CIYMS in the 1983 senior cup match?
Great day at the Kensington Oval earlier.
See you in June mate.
Andy - "After that Aussie Performance"
Vic - "Aussie are some outfit"
Give England their dues, brilliant performance by Petersen, Kieswetter, Broad, Swann, etc.
Hope they get the plaudits they deserve, but Vic probably thinks Ireland should be there lol.
hi hiler umpire was murray power i think was barts runner g mowat or was it j mcmillan hope all are well in barbados
In all my years involved in cricket I have never known anything like the Kyle McCallam phenomenon. Now on a Saturday as you ring around people who you know are at your own club's other XI's matches you also ask " how many has Kyle scored today ? " or " has anyone got Kyle out yet?".
Now we have had some great professional players over the years and some fantastic local players but I can never remember anything like this.
I think that as a recognition of these performances and as a tribute to his part in the success of the Ireland team in the last ten and more years he should be named captain of the Ireland team to play Australia on 17th June.
I can't think of a more fitting way for all Irish cricket fans to pay tribute to Ireland's greatest ever cricketer and a more proud moment for his parents who have supported him every step of the way.And in recognition of the Waringstown club who have in Ivan Anderson, Garfield Harrison,David Dennison, Michael Reith to name a few have produced so many greats of Irish cricket.I know he started at Cliftonville but sine moving to the Lawn his performances have hit a new peak.
I'm sure even William Porterfield who himself has proved to be a fine Ireland player and leader would gladly play under Kyle in this game.
Regardless of how big a draw Ricky Ponting and his team may be I think that the Kyle McCallam phenomenon could add another 1,000 or so to the gate.Every club player in Ireland should want to go along and pay homage to the nice guy who became a legend.
I could'nt make the trip myself to Scotland Andy, so that's why there hasn't been much about it on here from me.
But I believe the large touring party that did go,had a 'rare auld time' indeed and were very well looked after by their hosts and namesakes Victoria C.C. in Scotland.
Anyway it must have been a real success cause I hear talk of a tour already to Megaluff somewhere near Spain I believe !!!
Those Aussie's are some outfit alrite, they just don't except defeat,if England beat them it will take some big performances from most if not all their players.
But I'm still backing them! All the way!!!
Billy, that was a great day at Donacloney played against a sporting bunch of cricketers, but do you remember who was the umpire sliding slowing down his collar into his prisitine white coat as big Mark ranted and raved?
Also at the Factory Ground in midweek, who was Ian Shields's "runner" who ran him out before he had faced a ball? Everybody was in stitches but disappeared before the Bart got back to the changing room.
I must admit that I have been disappointed by the lack of information about Victoria's overseas tour to their namesakes in Glasgow - I know that some pedant will say that Scotland isn't overseas but they should try walking it! I know there is a posting on their excellent website but I would have wanted to see scorecards, etc. P.S. Is big Jeff offering any odds on England to win in W.I after that Aussie performance.
Good weather for it too Andy, if you see Jim passing by switch the tanker on !
It will fairly help bring his black-berries on !!!!
Vic. - I have a soft spot up here in Buckna for some of the English players!
