Torrential rain on Saturday meant that the square and bowler run ups were completely saturated, and despite intensive and exhaustive efforts by the ground staff, play was finally called off by the umpires at 3:30pm.
Ireland’s superior net run rate was the deciding factor in their progression, with both teams being level in terms of points and games won. Ireland had a run rate of - 0.488 compared to that of the Canadians -0.1870.
Ireland now face the winners of the other semi final between Bangladesh and PNG, which takes place tomorrow.
The final is scheduled for Thursday at McLean Park in Napier.
