Senior League Section 2 - Use of Net Run Rate

23 September 2015

Breaking News!

On behalf of the NCU, I would like to publicly acknowledge that a mistake was made in the calculation of Net Run Rate (NRR) in relation to the matches involving Laurelvale CC during the season just ended.

The Union through its General Secretary wrote to the Laurelvale CC Captain on the 16th September apologising for the error and I have personally spoken to their Captain earlier this week reiterating that apology and I have promised to follow up that call in writing.

I would also like to personally express the Union's appreciation to Laurelvale CC for pointing out the error to the Union prior to any scorebooks being checked. Laurelvale CC are acknowledged by all on the Union's Management Board and within NCU circles as being a friendly, sporting club and for them to bring the mistake to the Union's attention is very much proof of that.

Whilst acknowledging the error, I as Chairman would like to publicly give my and the Union's Management Board's full support to the League Secretary in question. An honest mistake was made by a hard working volunteer and the criticism aimed towards this person through social media is unfair and unwarranted. I have no issues with individuals criticising the Union should they deem it appropriate but volunteers who assist in the running of the game are few and far between (the nominations received for previous and the forthcoming AGM certainly back this up) and those who criticise same should in my opinion think twice before going public with their condemnation.

Lastly the Management Board were already prior to this incident discussing how we as a Union might improve our systems in relation to the administration of our game. It is our intention that these improvements be in place prior to the start of the 2016 season.

Andy Clement
Chairman
Northern Cricket Union
