IRELAND INTERCONTINENTAL CUP SQUAD

29 July 2008

Ireland have named a squad of 13 for their forthcoming InterContinental Cup clash with Canada.

The game, which takes place from August 7-10 at Malahide, is a repeat of the 2007 final, which Ireland won by an innings to defend their title.

Trent Johnston returns to the squad, and he has been a pivotal figure as Ireland have dominated this form of the game in recent years. Andrew White also returns, having missed the Netherlands victory due to the death of his mother.

Kyle McCallan will captain the squad, as Ireland are without the services of all their county players, except wicket-keeper Gary Wilson  for the fixture. Ireland also play Canada in an ODI on Tuesday August 12th at Clontarf - the only change being that Johnston won't feature, having retired from the 50 over format of the game. Coach Phil Simmons still hasn't decided to bring in a 13th player for that game.

The squad in full is as follows:
  • Kyle McCallan (Captain) (Waringstown)
  • Andre Botha (North County)
  • Peter Connell (North Down)
  • Alex Cusack (Clontarf)
  • Thinus Fourie (Railway Union)
  • Trent Johnston (Railway Union)
  • Kevin O'Brien (Railway Union)
  • Andrew Poynter (Clontarf)
  • Paul Stirling (Cliftonville)
  • Reinhardt Strydom (North County)
  • Greg Thompson (Lisburn)
  • Andrew White (Instonians)
  • Gary Wilson (Wicket-keeper) (Surrey)
