IRELAND 'A' SQUAD NAMED

12 June 2008

7 Northern players in the squad for Bangladesh matches

Ireland coach Phil Simmons has named a strong side for the forthcoming 3 day game between Ireland 'A' and Bangladesh 'A', which will take place at College Park in Dublin from June 23-25.

There are no fewer than nine of the eleven who have played for Ireland at Senior level before, with only Andrew Poynter and Peter Connell still to sample cricket at the highest level for Ireland .

Railway Union 's Kevin O'Brien will captain the side, which not surprisingly has a youthful look about it – indeed, nine of the twelve  players have represented Ireland at the Under 19 World Cup.

Ireland coach Phil Simmons said of the team, "There are a lot of very important matches coming up over the next year, and this is an opportunity for me to get a look over the course of 3 days at some of those players who are fighting for inclusion. There's no doubt that Bangladesh 'A' will provide very stern opposition, and it will be a good test for the players."

Following the three day match, the full Ireland team will take on Bangladesh 'A' on Friday June 27 in their first official Twenty20 clash. That game will take place at Eglinton starting at 4:30pm , with tickets priced at £10 for adults. Kids under 16 will get in free, if accompanied by an adult. OAP’s and unaccompanied children will be charged £5. Tickets are available via the Cricket Ireland websitewww.irishcricket.org or from www.ticketmaster.ie .

The teams will then play a 50 overs game at Bangor on June 29, and the tour finishes with another 50 over fixture, this time featuring Ireland 'A', on July 1st at Stormont. There is no charge for entry to these games.
