Marshall worked with a variety of age groups and standards, including the Ireland senior women, and A teams, as well as Leinster Under 17 boys and girls.
Marshall, an Irish passport holder, who recently declared his ambitions to resume international cricket with Ireland, was impressed by the attendees at the coaching sessions.
“I was very impressed with the standard of talent and ability everyone displayed. What impressed me the most was how keen they are to learn and get better, giving things a go, not being afraid to try new things.
“There is genuine talent and ability in depth in what I witnessed, and it’s easy to see why they dominate at youth level in European tournaments. I was very impressed with the Joyce twins who seem to have a great natural talent – everything seemed to come easy to them.”
“All in all the coaching went really well, and it was a pleasure to work with the Irish coaches. I have to admit the standard was a lot better than I'd expected which was a pleasant surprise and a rewarding experience. I returned to Gloucester excited about what lies ahead for the future of Irish cricket, and hoping to play an integral part in its development. It won’t be too long before I’m back for further sessions.”
Evelyn Harmon, President of Malahide Cricket Club, who hosted Hamish as he helped out at a club training session, said: “ It was an absolute pleasure to have a player of his stature here coaching at the club. We learnt a few things both about county and International cricket, and on the coaching side of things, we couln’t help but learn from his invaluable input.”
Cricket Ireland Operations Director Mark Garaway said of the trip: “It is great to be able to introduce Hamish into Irish Cricket so early in the season on the first of many coaching trips to Ireland. These two sessions compliment the work that Hamish is already undertaking on behalf of Cricket Ireland with Graeme McCarter at Gloucestershire CCC.
“All the players and coaches who worked with Hamish at North County and Malahide CC saw what an enthusiastic and professional individual he is. Hamish is going to be a major asset for Cricket Ireland over the coming years.”
