FOYLE TO SIT FINAL TEST

11 June 2009

Foyle & Londonderry College are through to the final of this year’s Ulster Bank Schools Cricket Cup.

Their opponents at the Civil Service ground in Belfast next Wednesday are still not known. Last year’s runners up Royal Belfast Academical Institution are through to the semi final and will meet either Limavady Grammar School or Lurgan College for a place in the final.

Foyle reached the final with a convincing 92-run victory over Grosvenor Grammar School. Their 230 for 8 in 36 overs - Mark Fleming with 56 and Aaron Kitson with 47 top scored - was always going to be too many for the Belfast school who were all out for 138. Graeme McCarter led the way in the field for Foyle with 3 for 25 and Mark Porter, Nick Donnell and Kitson all chipped in with two wickets each.

“Inst” won their place in the semi final with a comfortable five wicket over Belfast rivals Campbell College. Campbell posted a formidable 177 for 8 in a game restricted to 36 overs with James McKinney undefeated at 81. But a third wicket partnership of 111 between Ben Wylie (67) and Sam Shannon (60) saw “Inst” home with half their wickets in hand.
