Explaining his reasoning, he said, "It has been a tough decision for me, but one I had to make. On returning from the latest tour, I have realised that my work load has built up so much that I will find it hard to do anything else." (Langford-Smith has recently started a painting/decorating business).

Langford-Smith, 31, has played 43 times for Ireland since making his debut against Hamsphire in April 2006. He is Ireland's leading wicket taker in One Day Internationals,(25 at 31.88), and in total took 65 wickets at 27.14, with a best bowling return of 5 for 45 versus Bermuda in 2007. A useful hitter down the order, he scored 321 runs at 17.83, with a highest score of 39 against Somerset.
