Cricket Ireland today announced that that they plan to use this year’s Bob Kerr Irish Senior Cup Final to help raise money for the Concern Emergency Pakistan Appeal.

The initiative will see all proceeds from tickets for the game being donated directly to the appeal fund and a bucket collection on the day to allow supporters to make their own donations.

Warren Deutrom, CEO Cricket Ireland commented “The calamity of events in Pakistan and the scale of devastation are simply tragic. Our thoughts are with all those impacted and this is a small gesture on our part to show solidarity with the millions of victims of this disaster. The purpose of this initiative is to help raise awareness in Ireland of their plight and to show that the cricket followers in this country are standing alongside them in whatever way we can.”

Concern’s Regional Director, Lucia Ennis, has just returned from Pakistan, she said “we are battling against time to deliver basic essentials to families who have lost literally everything. The money raised by the people attending the Bob Kerr final, will go a long way, in getting urgent supplies of food, fresh drinking water and basic necessities to the thousands if not millions of men, women and children affected”.

The Bob Kerr Senior Cup Final will be contested on Saturday 11th September by Railway Union and Merrion and will be staged at the North County Cricket Club, Balrothery with play commencing at 11am. Tickets can be purchased at the gate and are €10 for adults and €5 for OAPs and Under 16s not with an adult with the full ticket price going directly to the Concern Pakistan Flood Appeal.

The Bob Kerr Cup is Ireland’s premier cricket competition and is named in memory of Bob Kerr the former President and Chairman of Cricket Ireland. Mrs. Hope Kerr commented “I cannot think of a more fitting gesture for the final of the competition. I am delighted to support this initiative and I know that all of the cricketing fraternity in Ireland will get behind it. We are looking forward to a top class day of cricket and hopefully raising a significant sum for the Concern Emergency Pakistan Appeal at the same time.”
