CIYMS CELEBRATION WEEKEND

13 June 2007

Normally when CIYMS Cricket Club have their “free” weekend in June, a number of the players head over to England on tour and show the English how to play proper hung over cricket!

However this year they are doing things a little differently in line with the successes the Club has been achieving both on and off the field. This weekend sees CIYMS Cricket Club celebrations taking place at both Belmont and the Oval football ground.

On Friday, an NCU Presidents XI will play a CIYMS XI in a match when the new Clubhouse will be officially opened by the cricket section and also the brand new state of the art scoreboard supplied by FSL Cookstown sponsored by HCL and Hughes and Company will be opened and in use for the first time. The match will take the form of a 40 over each way game which will be punctuated by a corporate/ friends of the club luncheon followed by evening entertainment. This is very much a day where all guests are welcome and we hope to see a great crowd up at the game.

Saturday will be a unique day involving illustrious footballing neighbours Glentoran, in conjunction with Colin Nixon’s Testimonial Year. This will include both teams attempting to play both football and cricket against each other. The football will be kicking off at 11am, at the Oval, with each goal equal to five runs. Then it’s back toBelmont for a bite of lunch and then some 20/20 cricket, with the Glens batting first and adding to their lead from the football and setting a target for CI to chase down.

After the cricket there will be a BBQ, a small auction will be run and then the highlight of the night’s entertainment, “Barely Connelly”, will take the stage with his world famous Billy Connelly routine.

Hopefully the weather holds and everyone involved in both days at CI have a great time and enjoy the very impressive clubhouse and surroundings at CI Cricket Club.
