Organised by Bready Cricket Club, the SPAR Summer Cricket Camp will nurture budding Flintoffs across a range of skills and techniques. Throughout the week, boys and girls between 7 and 18 years old will have the opportunity to take advantage of a wide range of coaching clinics with players and coaches from Bready Cricket Club and further afield.
Mark Olphert, Bready CC Cricket Development Officer comments: “Bready Cricket Club is renowned acrossIreland for helping to develop aspiring young cricketers. Evidence of this could be seen at the recent World Cup, where our very own Boyd Rankin was a huge success when opening the bowling for Ireland. Following Ireland’s success, we have seen an influx of young cricketers, both boys and girls, coming along to our youth coaching nights each Friday night at our clubs grounds. Throughout each week we see over 60 kids participating, enjoying and learning the three main disciplines of cricket - batting, bowling and fielding.
As a result of the increased numbers, we will be running our first SPAR Summer Cricket Camp at our clubs grounds from Monday 16th July - Friday 20th July. During this week, our overseas coach Frikkie Holtzhausen will be assisted by Eddie Fyfield, who will be coming over fromEngland specifically to add his support to this event. To all those who do not know Eddie, he was the club’s very first Coach back in the 90’s, where he was influential in developing a lot of the players who play with our 1st XI this season. A number of our club’s voluntary coaches who have played at representative level will be assisting with the activities during the Camp.
Bready Cricket Club are proud to be associated with SPAR and would like to thank SPAR for sponsoring this event. Without their support, events like this would not be possible.”
Paddy Doody, Sales & Marketing Director, Henderson Group (owners of the SPAR franchise in Northern Ireland adds: “SPAR has long been associated with sports on all levels, from grass roots through to national and international levels. We are delighted to sponsor the first SPAR Summer Cricket Camp with Bready Cricket Club as we are keen to encourage healthy, active lifestyles among children. The sport has become increasingly popular with young people due toIreland’s successful World Cup campaign, so we’re certain it will prove popular. Lets hope the weather allows for an enjoyable week of cricket!“
