chris. are these the same boultwoods that left you a couple of years ago?
Hi Wylie,
This is an issue that has been around for over 100 years. Davy has it right when he says the player can say no. However, let's be honest, if a promising young player is nurtured at your club surely you want to see him make the most of his ability and test himself at the highest level? Same goes for Eoin Morgan, Ed Joyce, George Dockrell et al. If it doesn't work out then he can return. Not all clubs are the same in every sport and most players (not all) aspire to play at the highest level. There are good examples of doing both and David Kennedy is a role model. Ballymena "lent" him to North Down for a few years and he was outstanding at the highest level. So much so that when he returned to Comber the next season in the opposition the supporters presented him with a gift in recognition of his contribution to the club. It's tough losing your best young players but there is still a lot of satisfaction in producing them. Robin Walsh played for Larne didn't he?
Unfortunately wylie that's sport for you! E.g eoin morgan coming through Irish underage levels etc only for him to go and play for England but look at it from his point of view was he ever going to get to play the highest level (test cricket) with Ireland? Same can be said for the larne and saintfield lads were they ever going to play premier league with their respective teams? I believe that if u can play, then play at the highest level possible and that is clearly what these guys look to do.
However don't agree with u wylie in saying what's the point, at the end of the day you've helped develop good young cricketers and isn't that what all clubs look to do? Teams in the lower divisions I'm afraid will always be resigned to the fact that their best players will always look to play at the top and so they should. Also Agree with Davy completely over all this tapping nonsense ( Andy read ur messages before u post them) at the end of the day it's the players choice! Teams look to good players to strengthen their team, name me one top team who doesn't?
Re Player Movement
I have heard that CIYMS have also signed the highly talented leg spinner and number 11 bat McChesney from Cliftonville - he together with their two pros should make CIYMS a force to be reckoned with
Re player movements
CIYMS have signed the highly talented Boultwood brothers from Saintfield, two great young players who I am tipping to make a big impact in the Premier League for years to come
Player movement: A Cowden has moved from Carrickfergus to CSNI. Good luck mate.
Player poaching: Not all the clubs fault. Players can also just say no.
Wylie, are you saying that Andy K's beloved Muckamore are invloved in "tapping up" young talent from another club??!! Certainly not...
Re Andy and player movements
Two young players have been enticed to leave Larne Cricket Club for “bigger and better” places – under 17 Irish international Robert McKinley has gone to Ballymena and Christopher Dempsey has gone to Muckamore. Both, I believe, with promises of playing senior cricket with their new teams.
Now I will say that I do not be-grudge either of them leaving and wish them well at their new clubs but it does make you wonder why we bother coaching and nurturing young players at Larne (and clubs like us) when the really good ones will be “encouraged” to go and play for higher league teams if they are deemed to be bright prospects.
Jim,
Are we watching the same match? Not over til the fat lady sings and all that!
The Associates have done well especially Ireland and although we have only one win I think two wins was our realistic goal. That means if we beat the Dutch we have done really well. The best guide to success and status is how you are judged by your peers and in fairness 90% of the commentators and opposing captains have all given Ireland high praise and recognition. That is a huge jump from 2007 and shows how far we have come. Not far enough for a few people perhaps but huge steps. The boys deserve our congratulations. Now let's beat the Dutch.
andy, humour? my goodness didnt think it was in you!! yes lets stop winding each other up and look forward to the new season. i hope your standing in a game or two so i can introduce myself to you and we can enjoy the banter!
I know its boring but at least it keeps getting comments! OK- let's change the subject - any big profile signings anywhere in the NCU? anybody moving anywhere?anybody being "poached" - sorry tapped? Interesting postings on the Woodvale site - the only problem that I have is that I remember the guys in the pictures from years ago better that I can recall who I was talking to last Friday- or was it Thursday?

Jim nipped in with a comment - see my comments about the fine being imposed so someone else must have considered it "whinging"!! Also perhaps you could direct me to any adverse commets that I made about the Wilson dismissal. I think the decision was correct for the reasons that I stated earlier. And perhaps you regard me as a "whinger" when I say that I felt that perhaps Mr. Kaplan could have made a better call on Saturday! Don't think it would have made any real difference to the final result as the Ireland backs really must learn to catch the ball!!
funnily enough Steven I e-mailed my thoughts to the ICC and they took it so seriously that they immediately arranged for Mr. Swann to be fined for dissent! These are professional cricketers who are supposedly at the top of their game and should be able to cope.(Don't get me started again about Mr. Personality & the Stormont game!) And in the B'desh match Anderson looked "tired & out of sorts". They are living in top hotels, being transported in luxury coaches and playing one full game a week. Compare that with guys who are working every hour that God sends - if they are lucky to have a job - to make ends meet, worrying about mortgages and, e.g., car payments, etc. Now THEY have the right to feel tired & out of sorts. There was an inetresting article in the DM on Saturday about somewhat notorious London night club The Box. I'm sure his England colleagues will be pleased to learn that KP has been seen there - obviously they provide hernia treatment!!
Andy, Jim, Steven et al, I'm entirely bored with this line of conversation, can we come up with something else please?!
andy k, whinging poms? are you now and irish aussie? i think that your whinging poms comment is a bit rich especially after all the whinging about wilsons dismissal is concerned!
