i would bite your arm off to score a double ton no matter who against. great work michael. who else has done it locally? johnny hewitt? stevie dyer at school? others?
The CIYMS 2nds v Bangor 2nds game was my umpiring debut and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Although the sides were unevenly matched the Bangor guys never let their heads go down or their effort wilt even as the mammoth score accumulated.I think for that they deserve much credit on a day when they had so many regulars missing.
Michael Hingston's innings was a credit to his concentration and his determination to just bat and bat. I think I saw one ugly shot from him all day. The fact that he pushed himself to get a three of the last ball played by his team mate is also testimony to his fitness, and then for good measure he kept wickets. The pitch was a belter and it can't be often in April when you have to thump the stumps to get them in to the ground.
Alan Neill was a fantastic mentor and his love for the game shone through. I hope to get a few more appointments when I'm not playing. I actually found umpiring as a neutral easier and more enjoyable than umpiring my own team.
I think too often players assume just because you turn down a decision against a player from your team that you are cheating. It never seems to enter their head that the batsman may not be out.
So if you are thinking about helping out by umpiring an odd game I would say go for it.
Re ken
When Obus scored his magnificent double hundred against us last year it was put on the ncu website and nothing bad was said about that and there's nothing wrong with it! When someone achieves anything to that stature it should be acknowledged.
If Bangor IV played and the 3rds scrubed - that will mean they forfeit ?
Just noticed that Bangor IIIs werent able to field a team on Saturday yet their IVs played??
What is going on at Uprichard Park
I'm with you Paul! A notable achievement and something different instead of a report/ scorecard. Well done hinky!
Re Ken Sims and M.Scott
What is wrong with the NCU website displaying a picture of the scoreboard when a player has scored a double hundred - it doesn't matter what the quality of the opposing team the runs still need scored so it's still a marvellous achievement by Michael Hingston who last season played numerous games for our 2nd XI.
Wylie does a wonderful job on the NCU website and long may it continue.
I've just seen details of the demise of my old team, Bangor 2nds at CIYMS yesterday (Junior League 1).
I'm not sure that this is ultimately a good thing for local cricket, although NCU seem to be happy to flaunt it's merits on their website.
I'm sure my old buddies at Bangor are feeling a bit deflated today. Keep the heads up guys and don't let this put you off playing the game.
Slightly disappointed in the NCU website showing the scoreboard of the CIYMS II v Bangor II. Lets be realistic, one club has just signed a new 1st eleven (therefore numerous players have dropped to the seconds), the other has lost numerous 1st XI players and, therefore, are fielding a very weak second XI!!!! However, with Bangor Grammar's excellent record of producing cricketers it asks the questions, where were they today?
TAYTO . last week we played an strangford road was abandoned = swings and roundabouts as ive said you have best ground imo for atmosphere ETC so i wont be getting in slanging match especially with someone who wouldnt pay Sir Ians Bothams charity .
Looking forward to the start of the season tomorrow. Good luck to everyone, the game at the meadow strangford road will be on for sure if the forecast is right. I hear the game at the little meadow is off already, with two days sunshine forecast.
Any other clubs having any pro problems this year?
yes steven i have had seven cry offs from my team either going to rugby or other reasons and im still looking for players ulster better win

I think he means turn the taps off
To all cricketers in the NCU and on the Emerald Isle - wishing you a great 2012 season - may your dreams, hopes & aspirations be turned into reality on the many beautiful grounds around the Country - with you in spirit..........
Taito I know you'd love to play at Dundrum but there's no need to take the name of our ground half way through your existince haha!!
THE Meadow (Dundrum to clarify), in my opinion, is by far the nicest setting in the NCU to play cricket... we all know it's not the best pitch in the world but the scenery and surroundings is unparalleled.
In terms of best pitches there are the likes of Sainfield, North Down, Derriaghy, Waringstown etc. Improving our ground is high up on my list of goals for Dundrum CC as I don't believe we'll reach our full potential until the kids have proper wickets to play on.
Alan Tormey and the ground committee do a fantastic job with what they have and we are very lucky to have such a dedicated team that will help us move forward over time.
