Re: Craig Mckinley

Not that this has anything to do with Hinkeys fantastic achievement but the results and winners in the junior cup show fairly clearly that junior 1 is generally a slightly worse standard than section 2 (what used to be section 3). That's not to say that individual players aren't way beyond this level- obviously Michael falls into this category!

Couldn't believe that there were no saintfield players in the NCU team,Graham cup winners & league runners up. Played our U15 team and blew them away, plenty of talent throughout the team. Smith looks promising in their side, took plenty of games away from teams. Just saying i was shocked.

GRAHAM CUP AND BENOGE CUP

Just a reminder to all clubs that the age limits for these competitions has changed to come into line with representative and All Ireland Cricket.

GRAHAM CUP - under 15 on 1st September in the year before competition. (not July as in previous years)

BANOGE CUP - under 13 on 1st September in the year before competition. (not July as in previous years)

Please note this does NOT apply to the Colts Cup as there is no All Ireland element.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL

How are you to know it is going to be a mis-match? Is there a certain criteria teams should look for? I'd be interested to know....

On a serious note surely it is up to the captain of the visiting team to let the opposition know the capabilities of his side. If anyone is to blame it is the captain of bangor.

Either way the conditions and the state of the wicket should dictate what a captain should do when winning the toss.

Tiresome chat!

I have to agree with Dave on this one.... Was it really within the spirit of cricket to bat first, assuming that it was quite obviou that it was going to be a mismatch?

To be honest I'm quite hoffied with the comments on Michael's double hundred. To do it in a 50 over game is some achievement. And this statement of "oh he's done it in Junior 1" doesn't stand. Junior 1 is as good of standard if not better that Section 2 and 3.

Well played Hinky, runs are runs at any level.

My own club Muckamore got slated big time when we stuck 400 odd on a very depleted Larne 2's team a few years back. We even discussed the option of declaring the innings at the 250 mark with the visiting tea, however estler burke (credit to him for bringing a team and fulfilling the fixture) said the match would have been null and void, as per NCU bye law (Declarations Law 14.1 shall not apply: no innings may be declared closed.) so what are clubs to do?? Is it time that this bye law got looked at??

Taking nothing away from Michael on his double hundred. My only comment would be was it perhaps a bit unsporting of CI to bat first (assuming they won the toss) when im sure it would have been fairly obvious that it was going to be a mismatch?

I love how everyone else in the NCU is so bitter about CI's achievements, Hinkys knock on saturday is the best i have ever seen at belmont, but the fact that people are demeaning it because it was for the seconds is ridiculous, how many top ncu batsmen have scored double tons at any level... few i would imagine, the thing people have forgotten to mention is that matty lindsay a 16 yr old ci man took a 5 for, aaron johnston another 16 yr old CI man opened the batting and without a doubt actually looked better than hinky for the first 10 overs scoring 40 odd all off the middle through the V.. before hinky finally found the middle of his bat and spanked one straight at aarons stumps which cruely knicked the bowlers foot. whiz kid john matchett tied up the last few wickets one of which with in my opinion the best ball of the day again.. he has been at CI crawling round the boundary from an early age, I myself contributed a few runs and have been at CI since i was 11.. 7 years ago.. It is not money which dictates our success, its our coaching and incredibly well structured youth system.. which has led teams to colts cup success despite it only being recently reintroduced to the club.. people just like to blame our fortunate position of having money as it is an easy excuse to use when we beat them..

For all those who have (quite rightly) stated support for Michael Hingston, I would point out that at no time on my post of 29 April did I level any criticism towards Michael.
His performance was indeed very creditable and would suggest that he is easily capable of playing in the Premier League.
I would have loved to have scored a century during my career let alone a double!
For those more perceptive of you, it should be obvious that I was making a much more general point about our local game.

The CIYMS 2nds v Bangor 2nds game was my umpiring debut and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Although the sides were unevenly matched the Bangor guys never let their heads go down or their effort wilt even as the mammoth score accumulated.I think for that they deserve much credit on a day when they had so many regulars missing.
Michael Hingston's innings was a credit to his concentration and his determination to just bat and bat. I think I saw one ugly shot from him all day. The fact that he pushed himself to get a three of the last ball played by his team mate is also testimony to his fitness, and then for good measure he kept wickets. The pitch was a belter and it can't be often in April when you have to thump the stumps to get them in to the ground.
Alan Neill was a fantastic mentor and his love for the game shone through. I hope to get a few more appointments when I'm not playing. I actually found umpiring as a neutral easier and more enjoyable than umpiring my own team.
I think too often players assume just because you turn down a decision against a player from your team that you are cheating. It never seems to enter their head that the batsman may not be out.
So if you are thinking about helping out by umpiring an odd game I would say go for it.

Re ken
When Obus scored his magnificent double hundred against us last year it was put on the ncu website and nothing bad was said about that and there's nothing wrong with it! When someone achieves anything to that stature it should be acknowledged.

If Bangor IV played and the 3rds scrubed - that will mean they forfeit ?
