I see Dunmurry failed to field a team on Saturday. I hope they aren't struggling to survive!!
interesting pictures on the Cricket Ireland site - Eugene "laid out" by Jarlaith!! Don't mess with the umpires eh?!! Well spotted by Mr. Boomer!
Michael Hingston-
Well he has done it again- scored 207 last week in the defeat of Bangor then today he is out for a duck, giving Inst 2nds a false sense of optimism only for CIYMS 2nds to cruise to a 7 wicket victory lol
C boomer & ivan
I walked through sentry hill park in ballymena last saturday afternoon. No one playing cricket or bowling at chalk wickets on the brick wall. #foreveryounglate70s
And that's exactly my point Ivan, when we see more kids, parents, families & friends, messing about playing cricket on sunny afternoons in places like public parks, back gardens and such like, the way it used to be, we're on the right road...no doubt about it!
Good to see and read about all the pro-active work in these more recent times, like Kwik cricket in primary schools etc. being now addressed by the N.C.U. Cricket Ireland and cricket clubs/coaches throughout the country, I like to look at the glass as half-full and with a little help from the weather we can fill it up to the brim !
(And it will taste sweet)!!
Re Ryan Conn's 213 against Drumaness
Was this the game where Drumaness travelled with 8 players to fulfil the fixture and Laurelvale won the toss and batted 1st??
213 is a great score for a team, never mind an individual in a 50 over game but if it was with only 6 fielders it takes away from it a little bit
Just following on from the Primary School cricket. We at Cregagh along with Simon Johnston and Belfast City Council are running our 2nd Kwik Cricket Competition at our club tomorrow with 5 local primary schools.
It was a great success last year and the kids loved it. This HAS to be the way to develop our sport, we have to get into the Primary schools and compete with football and rugby if we dont I fear for the sport we all love.
I remember playing rounders at Primary school but we never once played Cricket!!!!
I have a child at a local primary school and as far as I can see the schools are keen for outdoor organisations to come into the school and promote their sport, we must make sure we arent missing an opportunity!
John - I suggest that before you start any analysis of Nathan McCurry's innings you want to check the background of this young man and the fact that he was recently the subject of a serious assault that left him critically injured. I, together with many at Muckamore, am delighted to see the extent of his recovery and that he is back playing cricket.
On club development , it's a case of each to their own, from my own clubs point of view it was brilliant to see the start of our under 11 practices last night and 20 kids from p1 - p3 joining us to add to the others already involved, a real boost for the coaches who have been working in primary schools for a number of years and the current NCU under 17 squad shows the progress we are making
Liam
Thanks for the clarification. All the best in London and hopefully local cricket (at whatever level) hasn't lost you forever.
re C Boomer
I think for cricket and clubs to grow the greatest emphasis has to be on the Primary School kids. If we can get youngsters hooked on the game at an early age and get them playing for fun in Kwik Cricket and then developing skills we will then see them wanting to play cricket at Secondary education level, in the parks etc.
Guys
Im only giving my opinion on Junior 1 from umpiring the last 2 years.
Re david.
In your careful analysis of the muckamore ivs v ci 4s you failed to mention the mccurry score of 99. Perhaps a better player than 4th eleven?
Nobody like anyone to lose by over 300 runs but this is a natural consequence of a club who has a strong 1st XI v one that has been severely weakened over the winter. It is going to happen from time to time. It just happened to be CI this time. Probably the reason everyone is getting so excited
I'm perhaps already preaching to the converted, but here's an encouraging topic for the N.C.U. development committee to chat about and build on amongst other things, when they meet up next week.
Quick cricket started again yesterday at Moira Primary for the P.6 & P.7 pupils, the teacher there is very keen on it and having a vested interested myself, I naturally called up early to watch.
Boys & girls of varying ability, all getting involved and most importantly everyone seemed to be having great fun, but here's the bonus and the added knock-on effect, when my son came home today he informed me that both himself and his schoolmates had organised to meet up on Saturday at Moira Park for a game of cricket !
If that's not good news....I don't know what is !
