In the days other all Section One clash Carrickfergus enjoyed an even more comfortable 10 wicket win against Derriaghy at Queensway. Here the match did not even last 50 overs in total with the home side 75 all out in the 29th over.
Andrew Cowden was named man of the match as he took 5 for 10 in the Derriaghy innings and made 31 not out as Carrick reached 77 for 0 in the 17th over.
Saintfield could not repeat the heroics of their first round win over Ballymena and were put to the sword by a McCrum inspired batting master class from Laurelvale at the Demesne. Batting first Saintfield made a below par 158 with Maurice Clegg 47 and Ray McCavery 44, there were four wickets each for Alan Wylie and Wayne Pearson.
Laurelvale made 162 without loss in 32 overs with Charlie McCrum hitting 70 with 9 fours and 2 sixes and brother Paul 66 including 9 fours in a ten wicket hammering. Paul just edged the Down Democrat Man of the Match award for his slightly more economical bowling figures.
The days other game at The Meadow fell foul of the weather with the game beautifully poised, home side Downpatrick were 101 for 4 needing a further 120 from 22 overs to reach the next round.
Earlier Chris Cargo top scored for Bangor with 42 and skipper Mark Hutchinson added 39, there were 4 wickets for Neil Gelston and three for James Magowan
When play resumed on Monday evening Dale Mullan 49 and Paul Linehan 23 took the score to 142 a partnership of 80 before both fell in quick succession to signal Downpatrick's downfall. Chris Beard earned the Down Democrat man of the match award for his four wickets on the evening and there was also a four-wicket haul for Andrew Nixon.
Bangor became the last team into the next round by a margin of 16 runs and the home side were left to rue the 36 wides on Saturday as opposed to Bangor's 9.
The quarterfinal draw will take place at the Shaw's Bridge Sports Association on Thursday 31 May at 12 noon.
