Northern Cricket Union (NCU) Indoor Winter League - Christmas Update

6 January 2017

From Richard White - Northern Cricket Union PRO

After three weeks of the Indoor Winter League, The Ulster Elks are in pole position after wins against the Muckamore Mavericks, Dunmurry Dynamites and the Lisburn Lions. Ross Bryans has been the outstanding bowler in the competition, and with six wickets he is the leading wicket taker. Ross’s best bowling spell was three wickets for seven runs from two overs. Matthew McCord, Peter Eakin, Adam Dennison and coach Jonny Terrett have been to the forefront of the Ulster Elks batting performances.

The Lisburn Lions have picked up two wins out of a possible three but will be disappointed with their performance in defeat to the Ulster Elks. Captain Michael Keery was impressed with Adam Berry’s latest contribution of twenty-five not out against the Muckamore Mauler’s. Glenn Halliday and the two Glass brother’s (Adam and Michael) have all contributed with both bat and ball for the Lisburn Lions.

The Muckamore Mavericks have encountered a mixed start to their league campaign with a win over the Dunmurry Dynamites and a loss against the Ulster Elks. Their victory was an impressive chase of 61 runs from six overs, with Addey (twenty-five not out) proving to be the match winner.

The Dunmurry Dynamites have had a testing start to the league and remain winless at this stage in the competition. They came close to victory against the Muckamore Mavericks, but were unable to defend their promising total of 60. R. Komaturi has been their outstanding batsmen so far after finishing twenty-five not out against the Mavericks.

The newest team to enter the league, and the second from Muckamore (The Maulers), have played one match so far against the Lisburn Lions. Bradley Hodge took three wickets in his first spell of the indoor league, and C. Dahkane accumulated a respectable total of 18 runs from 16 balls, but it was not enough to see the Muckamore Maulers to a first victory.

The Indoor Winter League has been a huge success so far, with a balance of enjoyment and competitiveness between each of the teams. The influence of so many Ulster Bank Premier League, Emerging Knights and Senior Northern Knights players has engendered a good standard of play. This is proving to be a positive influence for our younger cricketers leading into the upcoming NCU outdoor 2017 summer of cricket.
