...after Billy Henderson agreed to renew his association with the local Union for another year at least.
A major supporter of the sport in Ireland at all levels, the Director of Cricket at Eglinton agreed to step in to sponsor the leagues last year and no doubt North West Secretary and Treasurer Jim Lindsay will be delighted that his man is staying around.
Billy's contribution hasn't been confined to just league commitments of course, he has also provided financial support to several clubs in the region and his efforts, whilst not made public have been no less very generous.
As well as that he extended the offer of assistance to the International team ahead of their heroics during 2007 and has definitely not been afraid to back his vision up with cash.
North West Chairman Joe Doherty welcomed the sponsorship stating, “The North West Cricket Union is deeply indebted, not for the first time, to Billy Henderson for his generous sponsorship of the Senior League through his company, Henderson Properties Limited.”
“I am already on record as saying that local sponsorship is particularly admirable in today's commercial world, where marketing is becoming more and more sophisticated and the rewards are increasingly hard to pinpoint and define. People like Billy Henderson could easily sit on their hands and allow the larger companies to dominate the sponsorship world, but that's not his style and North West cricket is all the richer for it.”
“Having the costs of running the league covered by sponsorship releases money elsewhere in the running of the game and youth cricket is the inevitable beneficiary of that circumstance, given our increasing investment in the development of the sport at grass roots level.”
