have just been watching Rod Marsh delivering the Cowdrey lecture on the Spirit of Cricket - just Google "Cowdrey Lecture" and follow the link. I would recommend this as essential viewing for all cricketers at all levels and especially for club captains. He goes on to discuss Law changes but the early part of his talk is particularly enlightening.
RE: Clarence. Thanks for your kind comments. I know from working as a coach with large groups of young players that it is very difficult to find time to work with keepers and as consequence this area is often overlooked. I have now decided to focus solely on wicketkeeping coaching and hope start a long term development programme at Donaghcloney.
Well done Bruce Topping and Laurelvale for taking the initiative and setting up a wicket-keeping coaching clinic. I'm sure other clubs could make use of the concept and Bruce would be an ideal person to front it.
We found this quite cool - (Youtube Video)

Impressive stuff from the Cricket Ireland Ladies!
Why do clubs sign overseas pros and then let them go before the season is over? The big matches are decided at the end of the season when they are needed most.
Wearing my North Down hat you got that right "Mick."
It may have taken a few years to work out, but eventually the 'penny dropped!' No pun intended although I think you are trying to take the 'Mick' yourself. Why don't you use your real name and man up when you post an email? Surely if you have a point to make you want to be associated with it?
Also, what exactly is your point?
north down only really starting giving more young players ago this season with players leaving and deciding not to pay 4 pros
Mick, You're email is false. Can you show your actual name or we may have to remove the post. Regards.
Good post Gary. It's great for cricket that Ards are finally getting the facilities that they need and with the 'Dee fighting back late in the season hopefully more and more young cricketers will come into the game. There are many ways Ards, Donaghadee, Bangor and North Down can help each other in promoting the game in the North Down area and the clubs need to explore these for mutual benefit going forward. Hopefully the officials at these clubs will see the opportunity for a better future. In the meantime well done Ards CC.
What an enjoyable Ulster Cup final on Sunday at The Green. Despite the overnight deluge, we managed to get enough cricket in for a result as Comber proved itself yet again to have the best climate and to be the ideal venue for showpiece cricket in Northern Ireland. We had another reminder of what a topsy-turvy game cricket can be. There was North Down's modest start, an unforgettable 13-ball assault from Pieter Malan bringing 48 runs having hit a comparatively tame run-a-ball 50, Neil Russell picking up where he left off with a characteristically belligerent batting display, THOSE first two overs from Moxy and then a fine comeback from the North Down skipper aided by a superb spell from Jacob Mulder - what a signing he has been for North Down.
While we're being positive, the completion of the new development at Londonderry Park is to be welcomed. The new pavilion is splendid as are the new nets. With top indoor facilities to come in Newtownards, let's hope we succeed in attracting as many young children and those lost to cricket in the Ards/Comber area.
About Goodso’s post...
Does anyone else like myself, think he has wrote this as a “Tongue in cheek” comment about CI?
Maybe we need to relax a bit.
Re: Jim
I wasn't "CIYMS bashing" in my previous post but simply pointing out that congratulating them for playing without a pro(s) is a ludicrous comment.
The payment of players at CIYMS and other Prem League clubs has been debated ad nauseum on this forum. But if individuals post inaccurate comments on the topic then people like myself will feel obliged to reply.
However whilst the NCU regulations allow it and CIYMS have the money then good luck to them.
Just let's not try and fool anyone that they are a strictly amateur team.
When will all this CIYMS bashing stop on this forum and website? Was it not on here some years ago that someone from their club said the time to criticise was over the next few years if they weren't producing their own young talent. Surely proof that this is starting to happen is the fact that they had 5 players under 21 who have come through their own youth system playing against Ballymena in the Premier League. Can any other club in Premier League bar maybe North Down say the same? I believe that ex Irish International Derek Heasley is youth coach in charge of nurturing talent.
It seems harsh on them particularly when other clubs get so much airtime on this forum about the amount of members, teams they have etc
100% right Gareth. This ejit believes his own press. Their team is full of pros and if there are spaces in the team its because they've left.
Yes Andy, good point about the no-ball calling or the lack of it?
Perhaps it's the pressure brought about by this modern and instant review technology that so meticulously scrutinizes every movement on the field of play, that has international umpires worrying too much about what's going to happen at the batsmen end, when in actual fact the ball becomes 'live' as soon as the bowler begins his run up, which of course takes in the no-ball infringement etc.
Still, as I've previously said, we don't need to worry about that here within the NCU, and again, while I'm in a praiseworhty mood, NIACUS and it's proficent members provide an excellent service and well worth the money!
I've just read "Goodso's"post re CIYMS. Has to be the most humorous post of the season.
No pro(s)= too funny!!
